David is genuinely one of the best villain in any movies, prove me wrong.
>>
>>83111047
How is he a villain when he did nothing wrong?
>>
>>83111047
Agree. He's a better developed-character than any of the actual humans he interacts with.

Covenant really establishes him as a protagonist rather than an antagonist. He's the guy with the motivation, who drives the whole story.
>>
>>83111047
He was the best part of the movie.
>>
>>83111047
He literally did nothing wrong.
>>
>>83111064
i hate this fucking edgy teen meme
>>
>>83111047
>prove me wrong.
he's well acted certainly. his motivation is retarded
>>
>>83113328
>>83111064
he singlehandedly killed the franchise when he killed the interresting aliens. now we got again the ratlike shits which only cause screaming and dieing people... fucking boring shit we already saw in alien1-2-3-4avp1-2 etc
>>
>>83113429
>his motivation is retarded
What was his motivation again?
>>
>>83113488
Create the perfect alien race
>>
>>83113538
>Create the perfect alien race because bored

ftfy
>>
>>83113571
Not really sure it was because of boredom. David was intrigued with the idea of creating life when he wasn't bored, in Prometheus.
>>
>>83111047
was the intro the moment where he decided he hated humans? when dude told him to get the tea?
>>
>>83111047
He's basically playing Patrick Bateman. What's so impressive about that?
>>
btw
how the fuck did the hibernating coffin catch fire from the inside?

why was the bitch so retarded to get the mass bleeding, obviously contagious crewmate to their only ship?
>>
>>83113680
yeah i didn't appreciate how much she panicked. thought she was supposed to be strong womyn but she freaked the fuck out
>>
>>83111047
Why does a robot need to grow hair? For that matter HOW?
>>
This movie was retarded.
The ending was even more retarded when Daniels couldn't recognize that it wasnt Walter.
The whole slien making process was retarded as well. A fucking amdroid amd fassbender singlehandedly ruins a franchise.
>>
>>83113488
>>83113538
>>83113571
>>83113605

His motivation is to wipe out humanity so it can be succeeded by his own kind. The xenomorphs are just a means to an end. Did you even watch the movie?
>>
>>83114286
If this was his motivation why didn't he fly the engineers ship to earth to use the black goo?
>>
>>83111047
I hope he's being paid more than all the other actors combined because he carried the fuck out of this movie.
>>
>>83114386
Because like Walter said, when one note is off it ruins the whole symphony eventually. David is flawed. He has motivations like his dad (create life to succeed him) but because David AND Weyland are flawed they end up doing immoral shit to create life.

Walter is the best, he was just doing his job.
>>
>>83114529
Nah I'm not convinced of your theory. I think he mostly wants to create life, and if some humans have to die along the way, so be it.
>>
>>83111047
Yes, and he carried the movie.
>>
I wouldn't have minded the male captain to be the protagonist instead of the chick. Make Ripley special.
>>
>>83114386
Because the ship ends up embedded in a mountainside (for reasons completely unexplained by the film t.b.h.)

Clearly he decided the Engineers were the greater threat, but will presumably get around to dealing with the humans, now that he controls the Covenant.
>>
>>83114828
>Because the ship ends up embedded in a mountainside
Instead of flying to the engineers home world, he could have flown to Earth.
>>
>>83111047

>>
How is creating the facehuggers an improvement when the spores did the same job better and much faster?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeMVrnYNwus
>>
>>83112412
He's the antagonist bc the main cast, which we follow, have the primary goal that is established much prior. I would definitely not suggest he's a villain however, just that he creates conflict. He should have been the protagonist, like Satan in Paradise Lost. The film was going to be called Alien Paradise Lost but I guess they didn't think to write movie from mostly his perspective. It could've been really good.
>>
Saw covenant in theators yesterday. David was well played but written retardedly. How the fuck was the ol switcharoo supposed to be believable? Worst twost ever.
>>
>>83114964
Because the facehuggers creates the perfect specimen
>>
>>83112412
>He's a better developed-character than any of the actual humans he interacts with.

Which is the biggest flaw of these movies so far.
It's great to have a great villain, sure. But even when he's the protagonist there need to be interesting, relatable and sympathetic characters to play his villainy off on, and so far both films have been lacking that.

>when David Horishima the Engineers

The ending of Prometheus was to find the Engineers and ask the million dollar question has to Why? but instead we get this bloated piece of garbage with more plotholes than the first one. Shaw getting killed offscreen was the same shit they pull in Alien 3.

Alien: Awakening better have answer to all this mess or let Scott retire already ffs
>>
Why did David kill all the Engineers? Why didn't he try and work with them?
>>
>>83114964
The spores indiscriminately kill all non-vegetative life. Presumably the facehuggers are able to maintain some kind of homeostasis. Also David is buttfucking insane in case you didn't notice
>>
>>83114870
But the Engineers had to be dealt with first, because they were the more advanced race.

The humans would presumably have been next, if not for the unexplained accident.
>>
>>83114972
Why is this not in the movie though? I was wondering why David was just suddenly put back together again.
>>
>>83115122
They never get a good shot at him; the white one was standing still, no shit it died.
And in Aliens they die like flies, so no.
>>
>>83115077
While most of the cast was "I am here to die badly" I thought Tennesee, Daniels, Oram (Crudup) where done well, and Bichir guy was at least someone who stepped up from "Crewmate no 5".
>>
To be fair, from David's perspective, he was meant to be an extension of humanity's vainglory; a slave modeled in its likeness. Perfect in every way except being organic.

After seeing the failings of humanity and the Engineers, he sought to correct what he thought was the fallacy of organic beings. Was he a genocidal nutjob who unleashed untold death and destruction? Yes he was, but David can't help but do what he did. He's taking his programming to the next logical conclusion based on his skewed and limited assessment of bio-life.
>>
>>83115129
Is that what the next one is supposed to be called?

The only reason they didn't follow up Prometheus' story was because so many fans got butt hurt it wasn't a typical alien story, when it was never supposed to be one in the first place. It fell flat in places, but it had a lot of big ideas.

Also, didn't Naomi refuse to be in another one?
>>
>>83115144
Did you miss the part in Prometheus where one of them ripped his head off?

They consider him an abomination.
>>
>>83115144

See: >>83114972

Shaw ask "what if they are no better than us?"
David answer "so long they are no worse than us."

Likely he found out that the Engineer are much worse than humans.
>>
>>83114691
Walter was right though, David was wrong about the author of the quote. He is flawed, he can fuck up.
>>
>>83115170
>But the Engineers had to be dealt with first
Not necessarily. Earth was closer so it makes more sense to kill Earth first. Thus, I do not believe his goal it to wipe out humanity.
>>
>>83113738
more like this is implying hes letting it grow, but it would have grown way longer than this in 10 years so he cut it, but why does he have it at this length at all?

Yeah, these androids are way too strong. Now I remember how Ash was defeated by a bunch of space truckers.

>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkXgRlRao5I
>>
>>83115283
>Earth was closer
O RLY?

Also, David had Shaw to deal with, who was calling the shots. He was nothing more than a severed head until she put him back together, so she was flying the ship.
>>
>>83115229
I thought they fired Naomi?
>>
>>83115229
Can't blame the fans when the marketing for the movie was stating that Prometheus is the origin of the Alien but instead the origin of Mankind? Scott needs to let a great director take his franchise and give it a new spin because he can't focus on good story telling without coming out as a pretentious director with huge ambitions. James Cameron is running laps around him, and you'll see that with Avatar saga.
>>
>>83115420

If so, why can Walter keep up with him?
>>
>>83115470
Isn't Walter basically supposed to be a slightly more suped-up David? That's probably why
>>
The chestburster scene is cute.
>>
>>83115420
Walter mentioned him to be an outdated model who kept freaking people out, indicating something that happened while the one in the movie was busy having his torn-off head used as a flail mace against Old Man Weyland. I'm pretty sure there were more Davids.
>>
So eh, how did the eggs come to be exactly?
>>
>>83115458
>>83115229

She was basically fired.

She was supposed to take more English lessons to have a better accent, but she skipped out, Passion was a bomb, and she a year later did not speak english better, and her star had been tarnished, so she was written out.

used her as a model for the chestbursters. She was the only living human on the planet so the egg>Facehugger>Chestbursting idea had to come from somewhere and it was most likely from experimenting on her.

Also he mentioned to Oram how the eggs need a mother. I thought that's a clear indication what happened.
>>
>>83115747
>also why didnt he get killed by any of the killing machines he created 24/7.
The alien has a long history of ignoring robots unless they interrupt what it is doing. Ash, Bishop, Call, and David have all shown that.

>>
>>83116317

Not if he was purposely planted there from day one. It's clear that no-one from Nostromo knew about his nature.
>>
Just saw it.

How the fuck do you go from "David created the Aliens" to "There's Alien Eggs on this unidentified Alien ship" from the first movie?
>>
>>83116276
Suspect that he was a standard Synth that was "reskinned" so that he would not be IDed as a synth by the crew.
>>
>>83116358
The Engineer ship is probably going to be retconned to be the Covenant instead desu.
>>
So, the engineers grew to hate humans because 1) engineers are pricks, and 2) we basically injured/killed one of their own, and they realized how terrible we were or something (made in their image ironically), so they decided to destroy their own creation, and the cave paintings were the engineers telling humanity of its doom
>>
>>83116202
And at any point in their journey once David was repaired he could have easily killed Shaw, turned the ship around and exterminated all of humanity (on Earth). of course, if that was his actual motivation.
>>
>>83116358
>Turns out the eggs are the natural progression of the goo.

>In the end, all of David creativity was actually the goo

>David realizes he is a nothing.
>>
>>83116412
That's what I assumed to begin with. Every single creature created by the goo that popped out of humans looked nearly identical. Tail, long head, sharp teeth, long arms etc.

The only one being different is that alien-starfish that Shaw gave birth to, but it seemed to be a proto-face hugger.
>>
Why didn't they just recast Shaw?
>>
>>83115815
Also if he was paying attention during Prometheus, David would have already known how the black goo interacts with human reproductive system and creates the "facehugging" and "body bursting" incubation cycle (Shaw's alien baby and how it interacts with the Engineer).

>>
I enjoyed the film, but am disappointed we didn't get to see Shaw have an attempt at getting her question of why the engineer wanted to nuke Earth after creating humankind. Perhaps the new bird will pick up that in the 3rd film. Seems like a broken promise, as a Prometheus supporter. I know she was written out irl, but still it was the dangling carrot from end of the 1st film
>>
>>83116816
To me, the implications were enough to figure out why they wanted us dead, but a concrete answer would've been nice
>>
>>83115129
Did everyone miss the point of Prometheus?

The ultimate tragic irony: after all this time, effort and wonder that was poured into finding our makers and purpose, we discover there is no purpose.

The engineers made us because they can. We can infer this from the conversation between David and Shaw's husband right before David poisons his ass. Ultimately, the engineers found us unsatisfactory and decided to wipe us out. Thats it. You don't need some retarded deep lore explanation. The Engineers are scary and interesting because they are our imperfect, uncaring and unsettling fathers. They made us, but they do not really love us, and any purpose they assigned for us at creation is meaningless.

Even in the face of it all, Shaw was desperate to find out the "true" intentions of the Engineers. Funny enough, the real world audience is still searching for "answers" as to why the engineers made us and later decided to unmake us all. Speaks to the nature of humanity I guess.

So Covenant gives us a new interesting perspective that blossomed in Prometheus. David 8, the 3rd generation of creators (Engineers, Humans, David/Androids), is bent on creating the 4th iteration in this perverse cycle of creation: The Xenomorph. On top of all of this, Fassbender nails the character and we get an awesome antagonist out of it. Yet still, the plebs complain.
>>
>>83116811
I'm assuming they probably all have David in them. He's a fan favorite, and this movie hasn't really changed that.

Fassbender is saving these films.

David X Walter are undeniably KINO. Even though I despise this word.
>>
>>83116860
Also...

There is an interesting dichotomy between the arrogance in Humans and the arrogance of David.

The Humans assign themselves with this superiority or "purpose". We insist that if the Engineers created us, they must have had some reason to do so, and therefore we should know this reason as to understand ourselves. Ultimately, we discover this is not so and humanity is just the failed late term abortion of an ancient alien race.

David is obsessed with creating the perfect life form. David assigns the xenomorph and its predecessors a purpose. The xenomorph will be the ultimate life form. David is convinced that his efforts will produce a truly meaningful creation, and by doing so he assigns himself purpose. Ultimately we know that as powerful as the xenomorph is, a regular ol' human bitch can kill it.

Really makes your marbles roll

I felt really bad when the captain killed the neomorph in front of david

So here is my argument about people being pissed that David murked marked the engineer race. It's part of some of the symbolism that these past two movies have been dealing with. Prometheus had to do with finding your creator, or in David's case helping his creator find his creators. However as the beginning of alien covenant points out David was in some ways a more perfect being because he understood his beginning in a manner that his own creator did not, and he also understood that he was immortal. Ergo if he is a more perfect being than his creator he is arguably more perfect than the engineers as well. However I think his attempts to create life stem from his recognition that he can still be destroyed and so his immortality is questionable. He creates new life forms to a.) Have a new form of immortality as the creator of the xenomorphs, and b.) Lay low the gods of his own god in a sense.

The thing I like best about this movie is the parallel of david, humans, and the engineers. Humans were created by the Engineers in order to be subservient, yet they have risen above their creator's purpose. Same thing can be said for David.

Androids:
-Heal from mortal wounds (at least the newest ones can)
-Are hyper intelligent
-Are extremely strong
-Can be programmed to be extremely loyal
-bodies can be upgraded/replaced
-can use tools/technology to improve themselves and explore new things

Xenos:
-new generations are born to be extremely adaptable
-are fast
-are strong
-are hard to kill

Xenos arent even the ultimate lifeform. They are the ultimate lifeform killer. They cannot thrive on their own and absolutely need other fauna to reproduce.

Interesting, I assumed the engineers drew the star map, but I guess we didn't see them do it.

My thought was that they created us because their planet was dying, or maybe for another reason that was unknown, I was hoping there was an additional reason of interest, like we were there to do some kind of job for them with earth. The waiting for us to mature idea works too, for some long term job.

Yeah that was weird, the apparent death invitation. Unless there were benevolent and malevolent engineers, and we found the wrong ones.

It's really very simple. Ridley spends large parts of the film making cheeky references to things related to his past sci-fi triumphs for nerd/geek cred, rather than telling a new story. On the one hand he's earned the right, but it is a bit tired.

That doesn't diminish the pleasure in getting the references, especially when it seems like few others have picked up on them.

In Blade Runner, the android Roy Batty taunts his presumably human prey during a physical chase sequence: "That's the spirit!" David does exactly the same here. Likewise, in Blade Runner, Roy Batty is impaled through the hand by a large nail/railroad spike thing in the course of saving Deckard's life. This is an obvious Christ-reference. Likewise, The David android character is impaled through the jaw by that god-damn stupid Muh Necklace Memory Of A Loved One Is Muh Plot Armor necklace totem-trope, which is itself a small nail.

A brief exterior shot of David's temple about halfway through, when the group hunkers down, obviously references the Bocklin paintings. The Bocklin paintings themselves were the original inspiration for the derelict spacecraft in the original Alien film. Giger himself did an "Homage to Bocklin" in 1977, just before he contracted to start work on Alien, so the picture was primed in his creative mind, juices, DNA at that point. This is the importance of the image to the franchise, which is more explicitly vindicated in this latest monster-of-the-week installment.

Large parts of the dialogue in the third act are directly ripped from the original film. "blow this fucker off into space". When to know to listen for it, it's cringey but whaddyagonnado.

When David and Walter are standing in the garden and we see the "flashback" to David nuking the engineers, how can we be sure that actually happened?

They prefer "synthetic humans".

Androids are just particularly human-like robots. In the Alien universe, they seem to be more of grown parts than manufactured metal, but that doesn't mean they are alive or have a human-style brain.

This is as opposed to "replicants" from Blade Runner, which were 100% fully humans in the mind and body sense, and were just massively amplified or degraded via genetic engineering, depending on the area. Hence it was a disgusting society, prolific ramen noodles aside.
