evidently, they weren't.

Terrible game series to being with, why even adapt it? the hype for it is over? And they made Drake progressively starting from Uncharted 2 more middle eastern/Mediterranean/turkish? thy shouldn't have hired a white actor if they stuck with that.

Uncharted is one of those video game franchises that could work as a movie, but by “work” I mean a dumb but fun 2 hour action movie where the handsome protagonist goes to an exotic location to hunt treasure, fight bad guys, save the world and get the girl in the end.

I can't find the script but while I'm looking here are more Sony emails:

https://wikileaks.org/sony/emails/emailid/63873

By now you should have received the new draft of Uncharted from Chuck's office that was also sent to Mark Whalberg this afternoon.

The changes made were primarily in response to Mark's notes on the last draft and the great news is, we feel these changes really improved the script.

They are as follows:

Nathan Drake is positioned more prominently in the script by adding more for him and cutting back on Sully's scenes and dialogue, pushing it away from a "buddy movie" and making it clearly Drake's story.

We've added more to Elena's story with Drake so their relationship feels like the primary relationship in the story.
We eliminated the idea of Roman having cancer, which was his motivation for going after gold that had some mystical curative affect. He is now a younger character (mid-40's instead of mid-60's) who is more entrenched in the antiquities world with a prestigious reputation, yet driven by criminal tendencies. His desire for El Dorado is fueled more by ego than anything else. His introduction contains a heist and some action – it's a new thrill moment that makes him feel much more exciting all around.
>>
>>83063018
We cut Eddie Raja - one of our three villainous characters from the last draft – to streamline the story and make the villain plot simpler. Now it's just Roman and Navarro.

The only "infected creatures" that appear in the 3rd act are Roman and his men once they are exposed to the meteorite pathogen shielded by the gold. There are no creatures in the caverns when Roman gets there. This wasn't a note from Mark but we all felt this was a way to make the "infected creatures" idea more palatable.

The popular submarine set-piece from the game was added to add more scares and suspense to the Amazon as well as bring forth some information that was lost when cutting the cancer story.

Of course there is always more work to do and even as we feel the draft is ready to go to Mark, we have been discussing with Seth and the producers how we can make Roman even better, his actions more convincing.

In particular, we think we could better track how Roman goes from a man who would pull a non-violent heist to someone who becomes unhinged and starts killing people later on. We don't think he should knock-out Drake in the first act and stand on the bridge looking down as Drake's car is sinking, rather he should leave that kind of dirty work to his henchman. And Roman should be the one who goes to Panama following the coordinates of El Dorado, instead of his henchmen. When he discovers Drake has survived and beat him to it, Roman can become unhinged and shoot the guy who failed at disposing of Drake earlier, putting Roman on downward spiral for the rest of the story.

More generally, we also feel there is still a bit much exposition and we'll likely need to make revisions to adjust to budget.

1st sequence:

Pg. 1-2: INT. A HOTEL IN TEL AVIV (The Past)
Young NATHAN DRAKE, 9, sits in the middle of a crime scene holding a SIGNET RING bearing the mark of Sir Francis Drake. Israeli police investigate his PARENTS’ DEATH.

Pg. 2-5: INT. PLANE - SARAWAT MOUNTAINS (The Present)
NATHAN DRAKE (20’s-30’s) awakens having survived a plane crash; he is injured. The plane’s hull teeters on the edge of a cliff. The pilots have been shot, the other passengers are presumed dead. Four mercenaries are on their way. A passenger, TARIK, wakes up. Drake kills him. He puts FIVE EGYPTIAN FIGURES in his BACKPACK.

Pg. 5-8: INT. PLANE - SARAWAT MOUNTAINS
Mercenaries arrive. A fight ensues; Drake edges the plane off one cliff, the plane begins to slide down the mountain. All mercenaries except one are killed/knocked out. The plane approaches a bigger cliff - Drake reaches the emergency door, sticks an axe in the mountainside and lets the plane drop from under him. One mercenary hangs on to his backpack, Drake reluctantly lets go of (thereby LOSING THE EGYPTIAN FIGURES).

Pg. 8-14: SAUDI ARABIA/INDONESIA
Drake steals a Bentley in Saudi Arabia, sells it for parts, uses the money to get to Indonesia. He meets with RAJA, an Indonesian gangster. He lets Raja know that he lost the Egyptian figurines, which were apparently worth $1.2 million. Raja tells Drake that, instead of killing him, Drake has ten days to get him $1.5 million (Raja added interest). Drake agrees. Raja sends a tail, ARIO, after him.

Pg. 14-15: HOSPITAL
A doctor tells GABRIEL ROMAN (billionaire) that he is most likely going to die of cancer very soon. Gabriel rubs a GOLD BRACELET.

Start of sequence 2:

Pg. 15-19: QUITO, ECUADOR (Drake’s Apt.)
Drake arrives home, looks for a new job to pay off his debt. His friend, Victor “SULLY” Sullivan (50’s), arrives and tells him that Gabriel Roman will pay him 3 million Euro for Drake’s old SIGNET RING.

Pg. 19-24: GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (Roman’s Chateau)
Drake and Sully arrive at Roman’s home. Roman has a collection of FRANCIS DRAKE items (journals, etc.). They meet Roman - who looks somehow much better - and ATOQ NAVARRO (a Peruvian in expensive clothing). Roman asks Drake if he thinks he’s related to Francis Drake, Drake replies that Francis had no children. Drake tries to drive up the price of his signet ring up because he believes that Roman is really after EL DORADO, so it would be worth it to pay 16 million Euro instead of 3.

Pg. 24-28: GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (Roman’s Chateau)
In Roman’s private vault, they see Francis Drake’s astrolabe, and that it needs Drake’s old signet ring to work. Roman explains that the GOLD BRACELET he’s wearing is from El Dorado, and that the magic in the gold is curing him of his cancer, but that he needs more of this gold. The astrolabe will lead him to the gold, but he needs Drake’s ring. Drake says he’ll get the signet ring to him for 16 million Euro in two days; Roman agrees. Drake explains that he has to get the ring back - it was stolen - from VICTOR CRUZ, a wealthy, well-guarded gangster.

Pg. 28-36: CIUDAD DEL ESTE - PARAGUAY
Drake arrives - he’s been here before - goes to a bar and obtains the security codes to Victor Cruz’s compound via a flash drive from a contact there. Meets ELENA FISCHER (20’s-30’s). Drake pretends he is an art dealer, Elena tells Drake that she’s a journalist. There is instant chemistry. Drake tells her about how he likes to travel the world, take risks. Elena says that she won’t let anyone get the best of her. They go back to Drake’s place, have sex, and she’s gone before he wakes up.

He does, he once went on a rant saying that fans don't want a movie, they would rather have another game. I mean he's right, but when he says that he sounds like a mediocre actor who doesn't want to be replaced by a better actor.
>>
>>83063329
Pg. 36-41: CIUDAD DEL ESTE - PARAGUAY
Drake looks at schematics of Cruz’s compound, finds an image of a safe, decides that the signet ring must be there. That night, he breaks into Cruz’s compound but the ring is not in the safe. The ring is in fact on a necklace around Cruz’s neck. Drake kills all the lights in the compound, breaks into Cruz’s room, where he and Cruz fight until Cruz accidentally shoots himself. Drake takes the ring. Meanwhile, there’s an explosion, and it appears that the police, led by SPECIAL AGENT ELENA FISCHER (Homeland Security), the woman from the bar, were breaking into Cruz’s compound at the same time to arrest him. Drake narrowly escapes the Feds, and Elena is angry to have let him get away.

Pg. 41-43: CIUDAD DEL ESTE - PARAGUAY
Elena talks with her superior, who seems satisfied to make the case on Cruz closed without wondering too much about the intruder who was that got to Cruz before they did (Drake). Elena is not satisfied with this.

Pg. 43-48: GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (Roman’s Chateau, Roads)
Drake and Sully get back to Switzerland. They are being tailed by Raja’s guy. Roman seems a little more sick. Roman brings them into his vault with Navarro, and Drake tries to make the astrolabe work by putting the ring in it slot. It doesn’t work. The dials do read “Sic Parvis Magna” (Greatness from small beginnings), though, and when Drake turns the dials to parvis (small), the astrolabe opens and reveals instructions of which direction to sail to find the next clue. The directions don’t have a starting point, and Drake tells Roman that that STARTING POINT is Colon. Drake and Sully leave - the money will get to them tomorrow.

Pg. 48-51: GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (Roads)
As Sully and Drake are driven away from Roman’s compound in a town car, Drake admits that HE GAVE ROMAN THE WRONG STARTING POINT, and that he has the right one (so they can go after El Dorado themselves). Sully tells him that he won’t join for this journey. Just then, the driver jumps out of the car and they are attacked by NAVARRO and Roman’s men, and their car goes off of a bridge. They breath air from tires to stay underwater until Navarro’s men go away, then they resurface, knowing that they’ve been double-crossed. Sully then agrees to accompany Drake as Drake tries to find El Dorado himself.

Pg. 52-56: WASHINGTON, D.C./PANAMA
Elena is once again told that the case is closed and that she shouldn’t investigate Drake, but Elena isn’t settling for that. She watches the security tapes from Cruz’s compound, sees that Drake was after the ring. As Elena’s associate tells her about Drake’s past (military service, parents’ death, his employment with Sully as a contract thief, his record), we see Drake and Sully arrive in Panama.

Pg. 56-62: PANAMA/WASHINGTON, D.C.
Drake and Sully follow the directions from Drake’s astrolabe and send down a robot scout into sea where the directions led. Meanwhile, Elena finds Sully’s cell number, calls, gets on the phone with Drake. There’s still chemistry, Elena tells Drake she’s coming after him, she traces his call and pinpoints his location. Drake and Sully’s robot pulls a COFFIN out of the water.

Pg. 62-68: PANAMA
Drake figures out that there’s a secret panel in the coffin - in it he finds an ETCHING OF A SHIP, which he knows is actually a map. Raja’s henchman, ARIO, pulls up to their boat. It’s made clear that Roman and Raja are now in cahoots to kill Drake and find El Dorado. Drake and Sully get away by creating an explosion, and a boat chase ensues. They manage to get their boat into the doors of the Panama Canal just before it closes, and Ario dies in pursuit.

Pg. 68-70: PANAMA
In the back of an old movie theater, Drake looks at photos of the “map” and compares the cross on top of the sail of the ship to other crosses - only one match: the St. George Cross, which could be found on the top of QUEEN ELIZABETH’S SCEPTER. They realize they have to go to London to find it.

Pg. 70-72: WASHINGTON, D.C.
Elena, a step behind, discovers that Drake is going to London.

Pg. 72-77: LONDON
At the Tower of London, Drake and Sully try to get access to the Queen’s Scepter. BLAIR UPTON, the woman in charge of the scepter, apparently had a sexual history with Drake and decides not to let him see the scepter. Later, at a pub, Drake and Sully see on the news that someone else (Raja) broke into the Tower of London, killed three men, and stole the scepter.

Pg. 77-78: CARGO SHIP (England)
Navarro reveals that the scepter that Raja stole for Roman is a fake.

Pg. 78-80: LONDON (Various)
Drake explains to Sully that the scepter Raja stole was a fake, and that the real one is buried with Queen Elizabeth, under Westminster Abbey. Meanwhile, Elena, at an MI-5 building, also discovers that it’s a fake, and it’s announced that there’s been a bomb threat at Westminster Abbey.

Pg. 87-94: LONDON STREETS
As they drive away from the Abbey, Raja’s forces attack the MI-5 cavalcade, and get ahold of the scepter. SULLY IS KILLED in the crossfire. Drake convinces Elena (“trust me”) to handcuff herself, so when Raja comes to apprehend Drake from in the cars, he also believes Elena to be a thief in league with Drake, so Raja takes her, too.

Pg. 93-97: CARGO SHIP
Drake awakens, devastated by the knowledge that Sully is dead. Raja forces Drake to help him decipher the mystery of how the scepter and the drawing of the ship that was in the coffin are related. Drake discovers that by placing the scepter’s base on the drawing of the ship in a specific place, the light shining through the diamond on the scepter causes the drawing to become a map, a map of a part of the AMAZON that includes the RIO DE ESPIRITU and a temple. An inscription on the map reads “PASS THROUGH THE UNDERWORLD AND BATHE IN GOLD.”

Pg. 97-101: THE AMAZON
Drake and Elena fly in one of Roman’s choppers over the Amazon. Drake is clearly still devastated by Sully’s death. Elena asks him about why his last name is the same as Francis Drake’s; Drake replies that it’s coincidence. Elena and Drake manage to attack their captors and CAUSE THEIR HELICOPTER TO CRASH - they jump out of the chopper and into the Amazon river. They go over a waterfall but survive.

Pg. 102-105: THE AMAZON (Various)
Roman considers Drake dead; Elena and Drake enter the jungle and walk, talking about Drake’s father. They are interrupted by the arrival of HI-MERIMA tribespeople, who chase them.

Pg. 105: THE AMAZON (Roman’s Camp)
Roman is clearly much more sick than he’s been before. Navarro and Raja discover the statue of Huascar, the Incan king who apparently hid EL DORADO. They begin to dig in front of his statue.

Pg. 106-110: THE AMAZON (Jungle)
Elena and Drake slash through the jungle. Drake tells Elena about Navarro, and how Navarro has convinced Roman that the gold of El Dorado has healing magic. Just then, they stumble upon an old RUSSIAN SUBMARINE. The submarine is filled with corpses, and the captain’s log indicates that the Russians were on a science mission years ago to find remnants of a meteor. They discovered a primordial element called Z-126 that has transformative biological effects, which Drake presumes to be why people think that the gold of El Dorado is magical.

Meanwhile, Roman and his crew unearth a giant stone slab, that they blow up, discovering a huge hole in the ground...

Pg. 109-112: THE AMAZON (Submarine and Underground Incan Temple)
Elena discovers that the ship’s log also said the natives that attacked them had also attacked the Russians - they were trying to keep them away from this place.

Roman’s crew enters into a giant six-tiered Incan temple underground, littered with tunnels and vegetation. Tensions are growing between Navarro and the others.

Drake and Elena make their way through the woods, where they arrive at a giant sinkhole. Drake believes this to be the passage to the “underworld” that the inscription spoke of. He tries to make Elena go ahead and get on a chopper out of there, but she demands that they finish this together.

Pg. 112-115 INCAN TEMPLE (Intercut)
While Navarro, Raja, and Roman make their way through the maze of the Incan temple, Drake and Elena lower themselves by vines down the sinkhole into a CENOTE LAKE, that appears to be filled with the corpses of Russian soldiers (presumably the crew of the submarine).

As Roman’s men walk, they are hunted by SHADOWS moving around in the dark.

Elena and Drake discover drawings on the wall of the story of El Dorado: 1) a meteor crashes down on earth, 2) priests worship the GLOWING meteor, 3) tribesmen glowing in the light of the meteor all turn savage and begin KILLING ONE ANOTHER, 4) a king (Huascar) gilds the meteor in gold, builds a temple to protect it, 5) Incan tribes fight over the temple, 6) Huascar’s army, victorious, kneels before a GIANT GOLDEN STATUE. Drake remembers the rest of the inscription on the map: “Pass through the underworld and bathe in gold,” he dives into the lake full of Russian corpses, swims through a tunnel into a TREASURE CAVERN, in which stands a huge GOLDEN STATUE OF AN INCAN GOD.

Pg. 115-118: INCAN TEMPLE (Intercut)
Two of Roman’s gunmen start detecting metal through the floor with their metal detectors - they decide to blow through the floor of the Incan temple.

Meanwhile, Elena and Drake find a small passage in the Incan Treasure Room, but as they walk down it, Elena trips a switch that lowers a partition between the two of them, sealing Elena in the room with the statue and Drake in a new room.

Drake tries to get through the partition but it’s too thick, then walks down the passage into a CHAMBER FILLED WITH GOLD (items, coins, artifacts, etc.). He also finds a lone SKELETON in the corner, holding a journal - this is SIR FRANCIS DRAKE.

Pg. 118-121: INCAN TEMPLE (Intercut)
Elena tries to find a lever to raise the partition between her and Drake, but fails, as Roman’s men get closer to blowing through the floor beneath them. They are attacked by savage, strong INFECTED HUMANOID CREATURES in the dark. They fight but some are killed.

Drake reads Sir Francis Drake’s journal...

Roman’s men finally break through the floor, into the Treasure Cavern. Elena finds cover. Roman and Navarro approach the giant gold statue in awe.

Drake discovers something astonishing in Francis Drake’s journal - something that Francis Drake regrets. But we as the audience do not know what Drake has discovered.

Pg. 121-123: INCAN TEMPLE (Intercut)
Navarro tells Roman that he must appease the Incan gods in order to be healed.
Meanwhile, Raja’s men are attacked by more creatures and gunfire is hardly holding them back. Raja’s men are overwhelmed.

Navarro tells Roman to place his gold bracelet into the hands of the Incan god. When he does, the hands lower, and the eyes of the statue open, SHOOTING RAYS OF LIGHT into Roman’s face (radiation from Z-126).
Drake overhears Roman screaming as he’s infected by the Z-126 radiation. Navarro reveals that he knew Roman would mutate if exposed to the statue, and that his SECRET PLAN has been to use the meteor/statue against “the white man” and bring about their demise. Infected soldiers immediately begin filling the treasure cave.

Pg. 124-125: INCAN TEMPLE (intercut)
A giant helicopter made for hauling large items waits outside the temple.
Drake puts a few grenades next to the partition, blows it, moves to help Elena but is attacked by the INFECTED ROMAN. Drake grabs the SIGNET RING from Roman just in time, and Elena and he dive into the lake, swimming back through the tunnel into the CENOTE LAKE.

Pg. 125-128: INCAN TEMPLE (intercut)
Raja blows another hole in the Incan temple, unwittingly allowing for clear access from the Treasure Cave to the jungle above ground.
Elena and Drake emerge in the Cenote Lake, but Roman is right behind. After a skirmish, Drake shoots Roman.
>>
>>83063726
The helicopter arrives, and Navarro’s crew loads the statue into a huge cargo net. The Idol and Navarro are lifted out of the underwater cave. Drake manages to grab onto the cargo net. Raja and his men are killed by the Infected.
Elena is saved from Infected Savages by HI-MERIMA people.

Pg. 128-129: THE AMAZON
In the copter, Drake climbs up the net, dodging bullets and fending off Navarro, who is holding Queen Elizabeth’s scepter. He eventually releases the cargo net from the chopper, the statue, he, and Navarro plummet into the Amazon, and the helicopter crashes.
Underwater, Navarro is dragged down to the riverbed and crushed by the statue. Drake manages to get free, grab Elizabeth’s scepter, and swim away. We crane up out of the Amazon to...

Pg. 130-133: WASHINGTON, D.C.
Elena is debriefed, and doesn’t describe anything in any detail, claiming that Roman, Raja, and Navarro we are killed and that Drake got away. Everything else remains unspecific. When she returns home, Drake is there - he clearly has been there for a bit - and she and Drake talk about the fact that although their affair was exciting, it’s not meant to be. He’s a thief, she’s a cop.

Pg. 133-135: AMAZON/G5
Elena returns to the Amazon to investigate what she saw, gets all the way down to the treasure cave, and finds it EMPTY. All of the gold has been cleared out, but there’s a piece of paper from Francis Drake’s journal, in which Francis admits that he REGRETS “never laying my eyes on my newborn son” - proof that Drake and Francis Drake are most likely related after all.

As this hits Elena, we cut to Drake, who is putting the signet ring on a lanyard around his neck and taking off in a G5 to places uncharted.

Dear Nigel,

We’ve read the UNCHARTED script and below please find our comments.

The script is very entertaining, and it is indeed INDIANA JOHNES meets NATIONAL TREASURE. It is a big scale production with many exotic locations (Paraguay, Parama Bay, Amazon Jungle). And it is also actioned-packed and intense with twists and turns, which makes it similar to an exciting rollercoaster ride as PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN in Disneyland. The non-stop adventures definitely stimulate audiences’ adrenaline, and some solution to save the crisis was really smart, such as how Drake cut off the air caps to breath when sinking with Audi in the water, and how Elena got rid of her gun and ID pretending to be a hostage to survive.

On top of all the adrenaline rush, the main characters do have dimensions : Nathan Drake is not just a thriller seeker or bounty hunter, but is seeking revenge for the murder of his parents. His relationship with Sully (like a foster-parent) gives weight when he witnessed Sully killed. The smart exchange of dialogue between Drake and Elena makes them equals as partners and competitors. These make them characters that the audience really want to root for, and willing to take on the adventure with them.

The chemistry between Drake and Elena works as great as MR. & MRS. SMITH. The first encounter Drake had with Elena in the bar reminded us of the sparks ignited when Bond first met Vesper inside a train in CASINO ROYALE. All the jokes work great, and there’re quite a few witty lines that add lots of fun to the story. And there’re also quite a few memorable lines that manage to set the moving motif of the film. Our favorite ones include the following,

*Grave robbing is what archeologist do every day. And Drake’s opinions towards how all the museums are merely exhibiting treasures they stole from other countries.

*We’re in the universe, and the universe is in us.

Hi Amy,

I really think once you see the presentation on the movie, we will need to anchor it with someone who will excite the world. There is a girl you know and love and I do as well who will be the best Elena with her keen sense of interest and humor - Emma Stone. I know she wants to do a big adventure movie where she will be a big part of the film. Just to remind you since we discussed a long time ago. xo

The answer is time.

Movie scripts are rushed because they have to meet a release schedule. Writing takes longer than it does to shoot a movie. On a two hour movie, they shoot around 5 minutes a day. So that takes a month, maybe two.

Two hours of a video game takes YEARS to make. So you have time to work on the script even alongside the animation and programming and testing. You might get two or three years to work on your game's story.

ELENA AND DRAKE AFTER SULLY’S DEATH

Upon further inspection, I do think the Elena/Drake dynamic in act 3, post Sully’s ‘death’ is all about economy. I think it’s important that Drake have a bit of a dark night of the soul moment here on two levels (and be better articulated than it is currently): the first level is essentially what we discussed, that he realizes Sully’s death is his own fault and an event for which he feels deep regret and an anger he can’t even process); secondly, while I think it’s important that Drake and Elena have a tough moment, too, I don’t think we need drake to seem petulant in the slightest. Drake should be withdrawing from her not because she did anything wrong, but instead b/c that’s what he does around pain (sully’s death) he retreats back to taking care of himself. He had begun to be vulnerable to her and connect to her and that’s all over until he deals with his most urgent problem, avenging Sully and stopping these guys. It’s a small but important adjustment, bc he never would blame her for what happened to sully, he would just be kicking himself for having let his guard down. What would follow between them would have the same kind of intention to allow her to join his team as they escape and then ultimately defeat Roman and Navarro, but be significantly less verbose.

Alright, that’s some of the stuff I’ve been chewing on since our call. I know there’s some deal and dates talk in progress but I just wanted to keep the creative conversation going too. There’s a lot of pressure from the studio to get this movie made, and I want it to be with you. I really think our tastes are aligned, and we have an opportunity here to create something great.

Happy to jump on the phone whenever, too, as schedules permit.

Because Amy's an arrogant moron.

She was a great producer in the 90s- but that was a different era. That was back when a movie like "A League Of Their Own" could be a giant hit. She's not qualified to produce modern blockbusters, let alone be the executive. She's trying to be a producer like she used to be. She acts like a producer in the emails, instead of a CEO.

So they're making a mistake on two levels- she's doing another person's job instead of her job, and she's doing it poorly because it's not 1992 anymore. Amy doesn't understand comic books or video games.

>What main bad guys are from Drakes past?
Wasn't Roman a former partner or associate of Sully's? They were definitely involved. In any case, which villain in Uncharted 2 was from Drake's past? The russian dude was just some guy that was also searching for the treasure.
>Where is the magic city that falls apart?
It doesn't fall apart so much as get overrun by mutants or whatever the fuck they were.
>Where is the maguffin that the bad guys want for world domination
The sarcophagus turned those people into monsters. If it got out of the city it would hurt a lot of people. Just because Roman was mercenary about it, it's a really odd distinction to make on your part. Still the same story structure m8.
>Where are all the movie tier cut-scenes and cinematic explosions?
In the game, did you even play it?
>IF you think any of the other games have a better story than 1 you're a fucking idiot.
Uncharted 2 has much, MUCH better pacing, better characters and character interactions. That puts it much further ahead alone.

Damn son, you must enjoy getting rekt making posts like that.

Save some money. Modern day scenes are literally set in an empty room and that's most of the movie.
>>

Roman didn't know Drake, he knew Sully. Drake met him for the firs time in 1. Just because Drake and Sully know each other doesn't mean they know all their associates.

So it didn't magically crumble into dust? Okay them. There wasn't even a magic city either. It was a giant catacomb.

Again, The bad guys didn't want the statue for world domination, they just wanted to sell it for money. They were typical pirates.

Last time I checked, Uncharted 1 wasn't filled to the brim with cinematic movie tier cutscenes and magical explosions every 4 seconds like in all the other games.

You didn't BTFO anybody, retard.

>Making Elena an agent is fucking stupid its just a braindead way to make her seem like "muh stronk woman". There is literally nothing wrong with her being an investigative journalist or documentarian.

>they lean way to fucking heavy on drake being a "criminal" in this script and it's clearly only done because it gives """special agent""" elena motivation to go after him and makes him """bad ass""".

>Elena and drake fucking there first night... again they are trying to make drake out to be some bad ass criminal playboy and that really isn't his character. He is honestly more neurotic about finding treasure it doesn't really have much to do with cash value etc and he certainly doesn't fuck bar sluts on the reg.

>sully dying or even "dying"... its very cheap if he "dies" and its way too early in the franchise if he dies for real

>the idea of a xenophobic brown villain trying to eradicate white people is pretty unique but there is no way that it stays in the movie as Navarro's motivation. it's too rayciss

How is this not a story of the first game and every Indiana Jones / modern Lara Croft? Those are genre tropes at this point. Just accept them, that's a genre now I guess. Deal with it.
>>
>>83056416
This is why Sony pictures are so fucking stupid and their games will always be better. Who is going to watch this?
Normie cinemagoers? "It's not a sequel so not interested"
People who played the games? "They wrapped up the story perfectly in Uncharted 4 so who cares about this weird manlet pretending to be Drake."
People who genuinely want to watch a good film? Well I think that one answers itself.

Better pacing? When the cast spends their plot-time jump cut teleporting all over the globe in the time span of a couple weeks? How is that better pacing than a decent paced sprawl through a singular area? Better characters I'll concede too, but that doesn't make it have a better story.

That makes it more interesting for you huh? What a guy. And of course the lack of explosive action in an action game is always welcome. Every time I play an action game I hope nothing explodes because that's a cliche.
>>
>>83065721
So you're telling me that I'm right and you're wrong and the story layout isn't 1:1 like it is in all the other games?

Vidya movies that will work are those that only use the universe in which the story takes place, not necessarily a specific story in the game. IPs like Fallout or STALKER would be perfect for crafting an original story based on the universe that they're set in, which is good if you want to make a movie. Uncharted or any other game with a linear story or an already developed protagonist is always bound to fail

Wow, you sure showed me. The ending is hardly the worst part about 4's story, anyway. The villains are all shit, the mains characters are even more bland than they were in all the other games, and the plot progression is a 1:1 rip off of 2 and 3.
>>

Some guy called Joseph Anderson made some 3.5 hour video on Uncharted 1-3 and TLOU and sums it up pretty well at one point when he says they're very well orchestrated, extended quick time events that when the mask doesn't slip are incredibly fun and emotional. Some people hate them for that. Some people think it's the epitome of what gaming can do. It's all opinion really.

I genuinely believe Naughtydog have advanced the medium in what they do and changed the landscape of gaming, even if their games are just glorified movies with cover-based combat.

That's what I'm paying for, that's the game. What the hell do you want to play in Uncharted? Would you be happy if there was no ancient city of magic that blows up? Fuck that.
>>
>>83065703
>implying the story's been wrapped already

Knowing Sony's reputation of milking their franchises, showing Nate having a daughter at the end of 4 opens alot of possibilities for them. They'll probably go the Taken route and have his daughter kidnapped by his old enemies or some other shit
>>
>>83066124
oh 3 is a huge mess but given the advancements in the set pieces, general story-telling methods and scope it easily beats 1 which is a nice but short run through a jungle with too much hiding behind boxes and shooting at things over and over and over and over.
>>
>>83066183
I miss Flynn and Eddie, they would've been good for that
>>
>>83066129
The COD games do that too. The Disney Star Wars movies do that too. Those things are made by big budget and algorithms to be liked. They're made by script writers and marketing specialist, not game designer.
>>
>>83066191
Set pieces were pehnominal, but story wise 1 is much better than 3, which had setpieces for the sake of them wihtout actual regard for whether they fit or not. The pirate guy and his ship could've been completely taken out and you would've lost nothing. Then you could've used it for another game and actually built on plot points and set pieces that just went nowhere.

The Uncharted games are made by an army of 500 people (maybe more if other Sony employees help them). It's impossible for anyone to have any artistic freedom. The budget and the team are too big so it must be as safe as possible or people will loose their job.
>>
>>83066129
That's true for Uncharted 1-3, but TLOU and Uncharted 4 are actual video games that are actually fun to play. TLOU is more about conserving ammo and collecting shit, but that's a game mechanic too, Resident Evil is basically that. And Uncharted 4 has actual exploration in those big hub areas and combat now has a good flow to it because you're always going in and out of stealth and moving all over the area with the hook.

>That's great, but that still doesn't mean it isn't shit
You're saying that the genre is shit at this point. That's not criticism, that's "I don't like it so it's bad". All zombie movies follow the same basic formula, every disaster movie follows the same formula, every monster movie follows the same formula. That's not bad in itself. Those formulas are what creates the genre. If you ignore the monster movie formula, you're not creating a monster movie at that point and monster movie fans will think your movie is shit. And they would be right.
>>
>>83066554
Recommended TLOU playing levels should be Hard the first time and either Survival or Grounded the second time. I platinumed the game btw
>>
>>83066532
How are you going to say 4 feels like an actual video game then say 2 and 3 don't when 4 is just 2 but with prettier graphics and dumbed down gameplay features?

They all have the exact same plot progression, they all have the same simplistic gameplay that's completely overshadowed by cinematic cut-scenes every few minutes. They actually dumbed down the melee system from what it was in 2 and 3, and those games didn't have great melee systems either. It had even more "hold forward on the left stick and press x to swatch Nathan swing around a wall/building/etc" moments. How the fuck are you defending 4 while shitting on the other games?
