It's not that there's no story at all, but so far through four episodes they haven't been able to tie together a cohesive narrative for us to follow. Season 1 had a major driving force in unearthing the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer, and part of the reason why everyone hates most of season 2 is because it didn't have that anymore. So far this season has a similar problem. To this point we're juggling:

>Shaggy getting a murder pinned on him
>The mysterious glass box
>Doppleganger coop vying for his place in the real world
>Dougie's story
>Cole investigating Coop

And not a single one of them has been written as an A plot line to drive the show. Spout your apologist "IT'S LYNCH WHAT DID YOU EXPECT" memes all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that so far this show lacks any sort of forward momentum with a major dramatic question that ties everything together, and that's exactly why we all hated season 2.
