My guess is he gets distracted by Laurie, possible Evie (maybe both) and gets revived before accomplishing the mission. Also, the abo guy is probably not going to be very cooperative and all the attempts will be trying to figure out a way to make him give up the song or even remember it (he probably drinks the water and forgets who the hell he even is.)

All of this on top of Kevin getting weaker due to multiple attempts in one day leading to the possibility of him never coming back while having no choice but to press on due to the world coming to an end.

Part of me wants Kevin to die with absolutely nothing remarkable happening, followed by the 14th being just like every other day, and more and more people accepting the departure was an inexplicable, one time thing. The other part wants God on the boat to be God, Kevin to be Jesus, and get the dance from Chris Sunday to give to Kevin Sr to save the world.

It's Lindelof. The guy was clearly meant to write for television (the fucking idiot wrote Prometheus, THANKS) because he's a fucking pro of keeping the current moment interesting. The problem is that he also relies on creating mysteries he plans on never solving.

So actually as far as the "hard on for Australia" the thing is you can just tell yourself right away that Lindelof thought it "felt right" or some other bullshit. There is zero logical explanation, he just wanted another time/zone skip like he did with the second season.

If, at this point, you haven't realized that Lindelof is the fucking king of spinning a ride and not knowing its end, just know that this show will have a stupid ending, but as long as you enjoyed the ride it was worth it.

I honestly thought S1 was emotionally resonant, and had amazing messages about living with pain and grief and that it can't be escaped. It was a season that I thought had themes that were pertinent to the mental health of a lot of people in my life, and I'd say the US in total, and it's challenging and bleak like life sometimes was.

The rest of the show is great, yeah, but it's almost completely dropped that. It has emotion, but the emotion isn't shared by everyone because every character is fucked up but in different ways. It's hard to learn anything from Nora, Matt, Laurie... Kevin was interesting, now he's just a plot device.
