OP, I was set to hate the everlasting FUCK out of this movie because I normally hate anime (apart from Akira and Ghost in the Shell), despise the original show and LOATHE race car driving but, FUCK ME, what a GREAT popcorn flick! A nice self contained story not designed to set up sequels, rich color saturated eye candy cinematography and visionary use of CGI and editing. Based on the 70's manga and anime series, the 2004 movie was Directed by Hideaki (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shin Godzilla) Anno and co-stars his Shin Godzilla actress Mikako Ichikawa. Just last year they made another Cutie Honey movie, subtitled Tears, and it doesn't have the sort of bubblegum cotton candy sensibility of the first which is why I'm not inclined to watch it. I've linked the trailer anyway!!!FACT!!!

Maybe, but it was still awful.

After watching it so many times I can safely say that the first ten and last ten minutes of the movie define it.
