And I can't recall another TV series with a negro female police lead, the trope is usually angry old black guys.

Justified's case was she was covering for the Chief who was recuperating from a gunshot. Wire was an ensemble. Person of Interest was awesome so all is forgiven. Rest are all guest starring or ensemble roles not lead.

But the lead was always Raylan. Rachel's 'grooming for leadership' thing was because otherwise the character had nothing - Raylan was a cowboy, Tim was military badass/comic relief, Art was grumbling old man/old badass. So Rachel got 'next leader'.

So unlike what OP is talking about, the show never shoved Rachel the badass lead nigress cop down our throats
