Okay, from what I understood of this scene, she slept with someone and she resented the fact that she was being judged. That's it. Was there some subtext that I didn't get in which I was supposed to sympathize with her for being an unrepentant whore? I like how what she actually did was fairly naturally explained purely through plausible dialogue, but it seems a little difficult to understand her side of the conflict.
Also, Boyhood thread, I guess.
The actress couldn't be on set for the next year so they wrote her out.

lel, okay. That's interesting to know, and this is a good a way as any to write someone out, but I thought it was still a little ill-considered. Actually, I don't remember much beyond this scene aside from how the twerp was moping so much, and few other scenes that certainly didn't need a year to film.
I don't think you were meant to sympathise with her. I think it was inserted into the film as a natural progression of growing up. Perhaps the way they broke up could have been different but it served to enhance the final sequence of the film. I don't agree with her actions but I agreed with her point of view about him. She shouldn't have gone about it the way she did but she's a flawed person in a film that tried hard to show everyones flaws in a realistic way.

Okay, but is that how women usually act when they're got cheating, to blame someone else for judging them? If not, the scene is unrealistic; if so, they are not to be trusted.

one woman != all women
one woman ~= some women
some people do whatever mental gymnastics they need to in order to justify their actions so they don't see themselves as the evil-doer.

So, you didn't get the impression that perhaps a little more information wouldn't have made her position more understandable, because I got fairly quickly that she cheated on him, and I thought there would be more to it, but it wasn't there.

It's how a lot of people act when they fuck up anything.

Okay, but it didn't seem satisfying on a narrative level, which is how I would describe everything in this movie.
