It's too fucking long, it goes on so long that you start seeing the invisible string that ties the alien to you. Depending on the scenario the alien is always a certain distance from you. It will constantly patrol and room you're in and the second you leave it'll follow you. As soon as you notice this the alien stops being threatening or scary and just becomes an annoyance. Your thought process goes from "How do I survive this encounter" to "How do I abuse this AI"

Yes. Usually in the first dramas the audience took part in the play (see the greeks) and later, around the barroque period, plays started to become more immersive in detriment with the public interaction. In games you don't have to lose immersion or interactivity, they add to each other.

Horror books or movies I read stopped being scary when I was 13 but lego looking games (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark...) terrified me and preferred watching them being played by a someone else in the same room.

PS4 has the uncharted series remastered from the PS3 versions. There's also Last of Us that gets trashed for being a cinematic game but it is still a good game. If you've seen the road expect to see similarities. Bloodborne is an action game that actually has some really cinematic moments that stand out from other video games. There's the new Nier game that's also an action game that's gotten a bit of praise. Just a few games there.

Just finished Uncharted 4 a few days ago. One of the most exhilarating games I ever played
>>
This game might have the best atmosphere in any video game I've ever played. It's a shame it was panned by critics, the creators were clearly trying to do something's intelligent. The opening title screen, for example, 9 out of 10 people would have put an obvious or oblique refrene to the alien. But no, instead we get the huge space station absolutely miniscule against the gas giant. It fit the mood perfect, and along with everthing else showed the love they put into it.

Also has a fabulous soundtrack

It both disgusts and impresses me how good the animations and graphics are in AI
It's fucking beautiful and since it's all corridors with doors that close behind you it's smooth as butter
and the alien is big, heavy, but still stupid fast and moves like it means it without seeming like it's magically half the weight it should be
but fuck me, if a game can make a beautiful xeno in real time then how did they fuck up so bad on prometheus and covenant

Quick question: is the directors cut to the original Alien any good or should I try and find a torrent for the normal version?
>>
Covenant was good and 3 was good once it got to act 2
>>
>>82941798
Fuck no. Maybe from like a storytelling perspective idea or something but it's gameplay was fucking awful and they couldn't even get the Xenomorph right. They cite their main source being Alien but I don't remember the scenes where the Alien stomps about to make sure that Ripely and friends can fucking hear it so they can avoid it. It only needed to stay on it's hind legs because running on all fours would have made it too fast for its tiny ass vision cone. The androids were the most difficult enemies, in one section of the game, because unlike they alien they don't make as much noise and they don't get board and jump into the vents until the player hits the next designated event checkpoint.

Scott or someone should have taken the basic idea from the start of the game, which sort of coincided with how Aliens starts, where the main character and friends show up at a space station, where the cheap synthetics are acting as if everything is normal but all the people seem to be missing, then as they explore the station they discover the xeno and things go bad. That way, unlike the game, it won't overstay it's welcome.

>Too bad videogames are made by idiots that can't achieve their true potential.

Videogames have achieved their "true" potential, though: they're just a bridged-gap between movies and games.

There's not more potential to be had. Really, there isn't -- I know, people wish there was, but there is not.

Its apex "potential" is an interactive movie and it's already done that.

People need to stop romanticizing videogames in such a manner.

You don't realise that a game needs the alien to make noise so that the player can actually play and enjoy it? If alien was silent in its movement like in the movie, then the game would be too hard and everyone, including you, would hate it.

The Last Guardian is nice. It's an adventure game about a boy and his Trico.
>>
>>82946629
Except I hate it the way it is because it is far too fucking easy to wait out the Alien, even on Hard. After the first 6 hours of never getting caught by it when it finally behaved like it did in the movies and waited for me in a vent when there was no indication that it was in the area was the first time it ever killed me. It never caught me out in the open because I wasn't stupid or impatient enough to go out into the open.

Again the only time the game even gets slightly difficult is when the game takes away all your weapons because the Main character is a moron and walks through a metal detector, instead of going around it like a smart person, and it makes you deal with a few rooms full of androids, when the Xenomorph isn't even in play. And even then if you get spotted you can just run around in a circle and then head after your slow ass pursuers lose sight of you.

Actually no.

Most RPGs, for example, don't have enough story branching. You made a serious, seemingly important decision? Tough luck, it actually doesn't have impact on the story. There are some "interactive" that try to address this problem, like Heavy Rain and I think Until Dawn (haven't played that one), but the tradeoff is short playtime and simple gameplay.

Alien Isolation bombed. It sold a lot of copies, sure, but most of those sales were discounted.

>Creative Assembly is not currently working on an Alien: Isolation sequel, Eurogamer understands.

>The rumour, began with the latest edition of Official PlayStation Magazine.

>Eurogamer's own sources have told us this isn't the case. Although the Halo Wars 2 team has already started prototyping its next project, likely to be a couple of years away from completion, this won't be an Alien title.

>More than that, we're told the majority of the Alien: Isolation design team no longer works at Creative Assembly. Cross-referencing the more recent Halo Wars 2 credits with the credits for Alien: Isolation certainly suggests this is the case. In fact, most of the names that do reappear only do so in the 'Special Thanks' section and belong to designers that now work elsewhere.

>But do we really want to be spending very significant amounts of money, and getting close to break-even or just about in the black? That's not where Sega wants to be, when we have a brilliant portfolio of other games that do great business."
>>
>>82950634
It's p common for game development for that to happen.

I haven't played the dlc yet. Might as well get into it now

Couldn't be bothered to finish it after you defeat the first alien because the parts after are so boring and there's very little actual gameplay

I honestly don't think Alien 3 is that bad, at least not bad enough for the director to disavow it, considering how green he was and how much the studio meddled

Resurrection and those AVP movies are both trash and Prometheus was never supposed to be an Alien movie that was studio meddling too
>>
>>82952158
I've only played the crew expendable one, but I'd definitely recommend it. It captures everything that made the original Alien great without feeling cheap. They also give you the same equipment the crew of the Nostromo had, so it's more than just a reskin. This includes taking away your flashlight, which makes being chased through the vent by the Xeno some of the scariest shit you'll ever go through. My only complaint is that it was only an hour or so long,

As if one is actually 'active' and in 'control' when playing an immersive video game??

How long is this game? I'm almost finished with Dark Souls 3 and thought I was done with games until RDR2 and death stranding come out at least, but this looks decent

the alien in AI is capable of learning on higher difficulties.

It will stop reacting to flares and smoke/noisemakers
It will start entering the vents you hide in
It will start looking under tables
It will stop running at you if you have the flamethrower out and try to flank you

It took me 60 hours to 100% the achievements, but an average playthrough is about 20 hours, depending on the difficulty.

It's well worth it, honestly, one of my favorite games from the past 10 years or so. It's amazing how well they did in keeping the original Alien aesthetics too. They re-made a lot of the original set assets from the Nostromo and placed them into the corridors and hallways and whatnot of the Svestapol. Also, the ship you start off on is extremely reminiscent of the Nostromo.
>>
>>82952806
I might pick up a second hand copy it#s pretty cheap

game looks neat
>>
>>82952315
So it's just the later part of the original movie to its end, correct?
>>
>>82952585
Not him but I tried it. The amount of scare chords was just jarring and obnoxious. And the generic synthwave felt really out of place. Combat was bland as well. It really didn't hook me at all and I gave it an honest 2 hours, read every email, took my time and tried to enjoy it etc. It was just boring. The worst part though was the sound design, scare chords like I said.
>>
>>82941854
i was addicted to the aliens arcade long time ago.
>>
But it's boring as fuck
>xeno shows up every once in a while while you go through different rooms
Fucking awful shit. Who likes this trash? If it added anything to the Alien mythology it'd be good but there's nothing storywise
>>
>>82952558
True. At least they coult make a patch for PS4 pro but no...

I bought a ps4 to play bloodborne because it seemed like it's kino as fuck

it was great

afterwards I played Dark Souls 3 and enjoyed it even more

in bloodborne the levels felt like a chore to go through

ds3 is just amazing
>>
>>82953228
Play Nioh. Yeah it gets repetitive and there is fuck all enemy variety, but the combat is great.

Theatrical version is the way to go. Watch the DC to see the additional scenes and whatnot, but some of them (namely the one in the ending when Ripley is escaping the Alien towards the shuttle and discovers what the Alien does to its victims) completely break the pacing, others are just snips that Scott added for flavour.
But he said once that the theatrical version is his Director's Cut, and I wholeheartedly agree.

Damn was not expecting that my 2nd play through. I always assumed the first encounter was when you went to the computer and the thing drops down from the ceiling with its tail going under your leg. Gave me one hell of a spook.
