I don't know if it's in the book, but there's a scene where a priest comes in order to help Anne's parents deal with her, and he tells them that they should marry her off when she's old enough. The show then gets into this entire subplot where Anne befriends a spinster who talks about marriage as if its stifling and unnecessary for women, which is basically the Jezebel view of marriage. There are also "female empowerment" scenes sprinkled throughout.
