Just came back from the theater guys, man, my palms are sweating, this was a very scary movie. I made sure to enter the theater with an empty bladder, or I would have pissed my pants. Boy was this film great and amazing, I especially liked the part where David fights several engineers that were about to escape to warn the other colonies. Boy, the way he unleashed the aliens was insane. Shaw was impaled by an engineer spear, and David then finally had a chance to create a better breed of aliens. Phew, very scary. Loved it. Going to watch it again!

I honestly didn't dislike this movie, it's a 6/10. The worst parts are the beginning (but I liked the prologue) and the ending. All the last part on the ship really felt pointless. The climax when they leave the planet completely drains all tensions for whatever happens later.
And, of course, the final twist was totally predictable.

Since overlooking details like these are a thing in every fantasy/sci-fi movie.
What really brought the movie down is that it didnt bring new elements to the franchise, outside the neomorphs.
The only reason Prometheus was remotelly interesting was because they introduced the engineers, and now in Covenant they throw that concept away for no reason at all and just give us more of the same.

the whole plot about him and his obsession. His weird thing for kissing. Some scenes felt "alien", not in the sense that there were ayy lmaos, but concepts that aren't familiar with human beings. Like David and his encounter with Walter. Or the kissing scene. Or the whole Walter dilemma about whome to choose. It's funny because you haven't thought about it. If Walter and David were humans, and thus David escaped his makers (imagine an alien species beyond us controlling us as puppets and tools) and thus 2 humans meet, you would root for them and for them to extinct the alien puppeteers. Yet here. We choose to side with the humans. It was a fresh way to tackle the "AI" genre. Instead irobot and terminator and so many more.

Promethues is a masterpiece and i consider in my head cannon not to be a alien film at all but a lovecraftian horror story asking deep questions about where we come from.

Alien covenant was decent. I loved the Engineer genocide scenes. Beautifully shot and terrifyingly powerful. Also the glass shattered into a million pieces scene while floating in space like diamonds was kino.

the movie is pretty gud, a mix between prometheus and original alien.

soundtrack is great.

I'm a fassbender fag so I'm automatically biased towards the whole david thing, but aside from this plot completely shitting all over the mystery and otherwordly nature of the first alien I found it pretty comfy. Might be because ridley is in his final years and wants to express something at the expense of ruining the franchise but whatever.

People are not as moronic as they were in prometheus but they're still downright retarded at times.

Whole movie is fairly enjoyable and has some pretty tight scenes (in my opinion)

There's a part in the end with the xeno running through hallways that looks absolutely horrible, like REALLY cheap CGI. I guess they must've been running dry on money near the end. Overall though, it's definitely KINO.
The score is great, the religious undertones are great. There are times in the movie where it really does feel you are watching art.

Its gorgeously shot and its so fun to watch Ridley Scott trying so hard to make a philosophic movie. There's some serious stoner philosophy here and the fact that Danny McBride and James Franco are in it, i kept waiting for Seth Rogen to show up.

Or maybe there's a phase 3 to the xenomorph stages where it matures into a "smart" elder version of itself that is capable of reasoning and establishing a society. It's just that the xenos we know never got to that point because they were always killed off.

I guess a standard Xeno is far more powerful/resilient than a Neo/Proto, and thus needs to go through a longer life-cycle via the egg > facehugger > host, instead of just black goo > host or something?

I don't think that planet was the engineer home world desu, it felt more like an outpost of some sort, and it's been shown that they have travelled to many different planets (Earth, LV-223, LV426 and now Covenant's world). Maybe the original destination of the Covenant is actually their home world.
