The only other sitcom this old that has been revived has been Full House and that was only dubiously successful.

But Full House took place in an insulated universe where everything was bright and happy and nothing big ever went wrong. Roseanne was truer to life for low income Americans (though poverty by 90s standards was a very different thing, the family STILL was raised in a home the proper size for a family of 5 (rather than post 2000 poverty which would have them in a fucking apartment).

I think Roseanne has great potential to be very depressing. A dramedy type show that showed more of the underbelly of poverty +25 years is not a great recipe.

There's a point where too much time has passed for a successful reboot. I think the oldest thing I'd like to see rebooted is Firefly, and if they wait another decade it will simply be too late. There's a point where these actors deliver a completely vibe as much older people and it usually breaks the original winning formula.

Roseanne being redpilled as fuck is all the more reason to go ahead with the show, there's a disgraceful lack of any opposing viewpoints in Hollywood, and Tim Allen's show just getting canned the other day makes it even worse.

Yeah, I can't think of many other sitcoms that did the low-income, realistic angle that Roseanne did. Maybe Malcolm in the Middle? I recall most everything else was comparatively comfortable if not lavish. Family Ties maybe didn't go too overboard, or Married with Children. Like Silver Spoons or The Cosby Show, who never really had to worry about real life problems.

If Roseanne stayed true to it's central themes it could work; I was never a huge fan of the show but have no complaints about it. And yeah I'm still annoyed Firefly was canceled; even though I don't agree with Whedon's politics he could write decent stories. Would rather see what main characters do when they don't have everything, without making the mistakes of Battlestar Galactica.

Well, also, the size American (and many other nations') waistlines are tending to be way larger than they were just a couple decades ago. The concept of what constitutes fat has shifted. And just being a few pounds overweight is generally considered normal.

Look at pictures of fat Elvis in his jumpsuit (barring the last 2 years when he stayed mostly out of site when he genuinely was obese) back in the 70s. People would always make fun of how big he looked, when by modern standards, he really was pretty regularly sized chunky guy, some may not even say he's full blown fat.

Same with Dan, by 90s standards he was enormous. Now he's pretty much a regular strongfat in the early seasons and in the late season he really did get fat. From the 80s-90s John Goodman was really packing on the pounds.

Dj Connor could be a character with his own interesting setup. He grew up around all these insane people, essentially everybody who grew up in the late 90s. I would love to see how he adjusted with his lower class upbringing when he meets a girl in his 30s that grew up rich. Flashbacks are more than enough to keep nostalgia but keep it new.
