LotR is literally the blandest movie ever made, it's literally good guys vs muh evil. There are 0 (zero) interesting characters (maybe besides Boromir who gets killed of early) and the story is pure shit.

Music and cinematography is top notch tho.

That's the point. For starters it's supposed to be enjoyable for all ages, like a father son book you both enjoy. Second, a lot of his shit comes from being a soldier where the other side's generals may as well be generic evil villians. Third, it never pretends to be anything else which is probably it's most enjoyable quality.
