the character development. the cinematography. the soundtrack. it's PTA's masterpiece. fuck boogie nights. fuck magnolia. it is daniel day-lewis's greatest performance. i can't speak for other people, but this is my favorite film ever.
im asking for other similarly cathartic endings.

Yet, Anderson’s story becomes stupidly fashionable in its stacked contest of Plainview vs. Eli, capitalist ruthlessness vs. religious fanaticism. The shabby set-up of Plainview and Eli’s ultimate confrontation in a bowling alley is so confusing and slapdash that their symbolic clash—where one forces the other to confess his shallowness and deny his beliefs—comes across as just secular-progressive prejudice and loopy, unconvincing drama. Each man is a thesis position, not a character. Is There Will Be Blood an undeniable expose of American ruthlessness, or a formidable dramatization of the struggle between power and faith? No!

I thought it was better than NCFOM by a long shot.
One of the best, distinctly American stories ever made. Performances are top notch. DDL takes all the credit, and he rightly deserves most of it; but Paul Dano gives an unsung kino performance.
Somehow the anachronistic soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood works brilliantly. "Convergence" over the derrick burning is epic.

It's a character study, like master or inherent vice even, they're rather unresolved. Where these movies do resolve themselves is never in the place where all the tension and drama stemmed. It's PTAs greatest idiosyncrasy.

Why does every opinion here have to share a level of contrition? All of his movies are great and personal opinion affects which of those movies we prefer over others.
Are people really so starved for (you)s they have to make sweeping and retarded statements that defer other peoples opinions?
