If you watch psycho and get scared you're kind of a pussy. It might still be a good movie, but come on now.
>>82804362
If you watch any movie and get scared, you're a pussy.
Enjoying a horror movie for non plebs is about recognizing how cinematography and editing create a sense of tension. Most horror has shit editing and camera work and that's why they mostly age like milk. But the greatest directors have all made horror films that last to this day because they're great style pieces.

Fear is one of the most subjective emotions and not everyone watches horror to feel it.
If you think you watch horror movies to get genuinely scared you don't know shit about cinema.
Oscar bait never ages well. Usually just becomes a laughing stock a few years down the road.

I haven't been scared t a movie since I was 10.
It's still a great.
I go to youtube. the ID channel & /x/ to get scared now.
Bad movies age the worst.
Good movies do not.
There y'go.

Psycho is not meant to be scary. It's a psychological thriller but it's not a horror movie.
>>82804699
It was meant to be the scariest.
>Perceived protagonist dies withing minutes.
Never happened before
>A brutal death in an A list picture
Never happened before
>>82804362
>he thinks horror movies are only about getting scared

Brutal deaths happened in plenty of pictures before Psycho, including in Hitchcock's earlier movies ("Rope" opens the movie with a strangulation, and Strangers on a Train has a violent strangulation on camera as well.) The original Scarface in the 30's was extremely violent, as well as some other mob movies (i.e. White Heat in 1949). You don't know what you're talking about if you think Psycho had the first brutal death in film. There have been violent deaths in films since the silent film era. The perceived protagonist dying early on in the film was novel though.

Yeah. Singing In The Rain is terrible.
>>82803608
You're abominable. Some old musicals are great.

Watched Nosferatu the other day and thus scene legit gave me goosebumps. Looks goofy as shit in hindsight but really unsettled me when I watched it.

I know I'm going to get shit for this, but I watched The Thing recently, and that shit was dumb. I just don't understand the appeal. "Muh practical effects" just looked like a joke. I've seen scarier shit than that on /b/. I feel like I would have liked the movie a lot more if they didn't show the monster so often. Not that bad though, probably a 7/10

>he cracks the door open and nosferatu is in the distance, staring at him
Every time
>>82807231
I watched it recently and on the contrary, I think the effects hold up to this day and are better done than pretty much any modern horror I've seen.
But, to each their own.

this anon is right
in a similar vein, the effects from american werewolf in london, especially the transformation scene, also hold up very well
