It's amazing what happens when you have amazing writing.
American Gods = great source material but shitty writing.
Anne with an E = shitty subject matter but amazing scene writing.

>It's amazing what happens when you have amazing writing.
my nigga!!!
I'm an edgy edge lord and accidentally put this show on by accident (clicked one too many times in netflix starting it up) and I've been hooked.
>>82798343
It makes you care because the writing and directing and performances all work.
They sell the dippy subject matter with skill.
It reminds me of Topsy Turvy. The idea that you take subject matter seriously as creators, even if it is old-fashioned and dopey.

Because it's a beloved novel loved by millions worldwide about an intelligent and spirited young girl coming of age in rural Prince Edward Island.
>>82796681
Why does it look so flat and washed out? The 1985 version was so colorfu

At the end of the day, /tv/ likes old-time sentimentality, so long as it's reasonably well-acted and the dialogue isn't terrible.
Now /tv/, like everyone living in the 21st century will rightly pick out some of more silly and dated aspects of the plot and the culture it depicts... but that won't stop them from enjoying it.
Also, /tv/ is still 4chan, and we all know Japs and weebs love Red-haired Anne.
I literally started watching it this evening. At episode 4 now. Actually quite enjoying it despite it not being something I usually watch.

So the CBC finally managed to produce something that isn't absolute dogshit?
>>82800779
a little over 30 years ago, as >>82798082
said, Anne (1985) is the definitive version and is perfect in almost every aspectand it's still the only good thing to come from the CBC, being a leaf is suffering
