>MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,MEL-BORN,

>>82781290

>>82781290

Why are Australians so autistic? You realise you say literally everything different from us, right? Like you have a cock in your mouth or something. So no, we'll say it the American way. The right way
>>82781290
It's pronounced Mel-bin

>>82782943

>>82782961

>melb-n
Also, the way they pronounce "Oss-ee's" or "Oss-traaylmaoya" there's like an extra 10 syllables in there when they say it.
>>82781290
It's Melbn you cunts.
BRUNSWICK SON WHAT
BrisBane?
>>82782905
>>82782879
I actually find this interesting, because the only reason it's pronounced as such is because the Australian accent is non-rhotic. So technically the correct pronunciation with an American accent is actually "Mel-burn" since we pronounce the r.
>tfw neither americans or australians speak the Queens English
Oh my days
>>82783137
The way people say it in Australia can't really be replicated with letters.
It's somewhere in between Melbun and melbin. I think melb'n is the most accurate.
Is the new Pirates any good?
Have heard fucking nothing about whether it's good or not
>>82781290
Because this is the only other time they ever see half the word.
>>82781290
Do you say Bacon or Beer Can?
>>82783289
>bay-kn
I couldn't believe Americans pronounced MAGA as may-gah instead of mah-gah.
Really pissed me off and now I'm With Herâ„¢
>>82783137
Aus is rhotic sometimes though. They are legit retarded.
It's pronounced "didge er ee do fahgs"
>>82783563
>I couldn't believe Americans pronounced MAGA as may-gah instead of mah-gah.
We don't
>>82782966
faggit it's still pronounced mel-burn with an American accent. since with an Australian accent it's some thing like malben
if it was MEL-BORN then with an Aussie accent it would be mel-bawn.
also wtf is up Americans saying Aussie as aw-see. it's Ozzy.
>>82781290
Is it "Melbörn"?
>it's a Matt episode
Shit by proxy
>>82784294
Is there an American city equivalent to this phenomenon?
Cent ew Ameericans soy enythn roit?
He's a Brit doing an american accent
It's literally pronounced melben
>>82784437
Entire states have this shit going on. Colorado, Nevada and Missouri especially.
The local population is rarely a good way to determine pronunciation.
In Virginia there is Norfolk. Any sane, rational person would pronounce it NORE-FOKE. But the locals say NAH-F'K.
Just people you live there, it doesn't mean you get to change the rules of pronunciation!
>>82784505
Australians literally say everything retarded because they are descended from cockney criminals and cast offs.
>>82784565
yeah thats actually accurate
MELBIN SOUND WE AINT FUCKIN AROUND
>tries to pass off a British actor as an Australian character where the accent is still pretty much british
Why do Americans always try to pull this shit all the time.
The great debate
>mfw americans pronounce "anon" as "ay-non" instead of "a-non", aka the fucking start of the word "anonymous"
>>82784437
Shh-kah-goh
>>82781602
american english is literally simplified english, australia is more accurate to the original english.
>>82782028
>gizbin
its crazy how Americans literally had to change the spelling of centre and metre to center and meter because they kept reading it as cen-tray and meat-tray
>>82785115
Interestingly enough there's a county right in the middle of Pennsylvania called Centre
>>82785115
Unlikely. English in England during the time America was founded was also rhotic. In fact modern American is probably closer to the way English was spoken during the 1700s than modern English/Aus is.
>>82783268
since none of the others have been good, i am going to guess and say no, this one wont be good either
>>82784699
al-you-min-yum
>>82781290
We actually same something more like Mel-bum because we mumble, american's are more cleanly spoken (except the ones you see on TV)
Why are all other Anglos so fucking terrible at speaking?
You guys never annunciate shit, making things like Gloucester sound like Glao-ster.
And you get pissy when we drop (u)s out of words

>>82783137
To make things worse, there's a different pronunciation when you go to regional/rural areas.
A faggot picked me out for not saying it the right way, which is still wrong.
>>82785557
this is bullshit you retard stop believing it
>>82786741

>>82781290
I'm American. I live next to a city called Melbourne. Mine is pronounced the first way.
>>82786905
Just like how most of your island did before the non-rhotic "posh" southern accent started gaining traction in the centuries following American colonization
>>82787162
>ayy yoo mane
>WE WUZ DA ORIGINAL ENGLISH SPEAKERZ AND SHIIEET
americans just cant help themself
>>82787236
Lol, neither of us would understand old English so thats a pretty bullshit answer.
And no, American English is not the "correct" accent. The point is simply that neither is the BBC accent considering neither existed in their current form as recently as 300 years ago.
The Brits pretending like the own the English language is laughable.

It's because Mel Gibson is the only Australian they know. (They think Russell Crowe is Irish.) So they pronounce it like it's the city where Mel was born.
>>82786339
Glou chest ter
>>82787339
im sorry but youre wrong, bbc/rp accent is a recent thing but to say that the modern american accent is close to 17th century british accent is outrageous, you sound like you have cocks in your mouth, try and read shakespeare and imagine it
Mel-boorn?
>>82786741
no it isn't, the soft R bullshit that british-english speakers do now is pretty modern.
>>82786339
Enunciate you mean
>>82787764
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/booknews/9143302/How-should-Shakespeare-really-sound.html
>Sir Trevor Nunn has claimed that American accents are "closer" than contemporary English to the accents of those used in the Bard's day.
Listen to your own Shakespeare experts you faggot
>>82787764
Your accent is no closer to it.
The simple fact is that most of Britain in the 17th century spoke with a rhotic accent. Considering the primary difference between our modern accents is that feature, it's not as much of a stretch as you're making it seem that Americans would sound closer to that accent than you guys.
>>82781290
Because the difference in pronunciation has to do with the accent and expecting Americans to change their accent when pronouncing an English word is autistic.
>>82781290
How do they do it?
>>82787742
Wrong
>>82788043
That's not it though. "Mel-burn" IS the pronunciation with an American accent. It's why it's "Mel-bin" in Aussie.
I've heard an American ask an Aus how to pronounce it. She'd say Melbin and he'd repeat it as such and sound retarded.
>>82781290
This guy is british, he had to mimic american accent
>>82788116
Would you pronounce "The Bourne Identity" as "The Bin Identity"?
>>82788023
They're just saying that to market it to yanks
The people performing in the "authentic" dialect just sound like they're from the west-country in the UK with a softer accent.
Theatre people think all yanks sound like they're from an Arthur Miller play
>>82788182
>Theatre people think all yanks sound like they're from an Arthur Miller play
loving every laugh
>>82788176
I'm American so no.
If you're familiar at all though, it's similar to Louisville and St. Louis. The latter should be pronounced as St. Lewis and the former as Loo-i-vul. It's not really because of accent, just the historical pronunciation. You can say Louisville with both a Kentucky and standard American accent but still pronounce it the same.
>>82788182
I guess I just really don't understand the weird pride you guys have in the English language when you factually know the way you speak isn't the way it's always been spoken.
>>82788099
I checked the wiki
Congrats. Its glostr
>>82784294
No you fucking Straya cunt. We pronounce Bourne like BORN in Burgerland. When your film and television industry stops shitting up life and can dominate the culture then you can dictate pronunciations. Until then, go fuck yourself.
>>82781290
>canberra
>pronounced cambra
>>82781596
its melben you fucking retard.
>>82789354
That's not how that works. It's not "burn" because Australians pronounce bourne differently, it's pronounced that way because that's simply historically how the city has been pronounced. Insisting on the "or" sound just makes you sound like a twat. Which you're welcome to do, of course, but don't get pissed when you get called out for it if you visit.
>>82783645
>Fahgs
Joking aside you're an idiot because it would sound more like "Fegs"
SHE WUS AHNLY SIXTEEN YIRS OLLD
>>82784547
It's not really the same as regional pronunciations but here in WA we have a ton of locations and landmarks that have retained their Salish tribal names, which can be pretty tough to pronounce for outsiders and makes them stick out pretty clearly (Puyallup, Sequim, Wahkiakum, Wenatchee, Chehalis, Issaquah, etc)
Why didn't god save Matt a second time ?
>>82788176
different words you idiot
In Bourne identity it's Born
in Melbourne it's burn
English language is full of these irregular nuances that's why ethnics find it hard to learn. it doesn't have the same rules for all of the language
only on /tv/
Australian accents are the worst accents in the world. It's like a retarded Scottish guy having sex with a retarded Alabaman guy and they're both drunk and have cocks in each other's mouths.
That actor is actually an aussie
>>82788039
>>82788023
>>82787162
factually incorrect
northern english accents like geordie and yorkshire are far closer to middle and old english as they both still have heavy old norse influence in them
