I think the argument can be made that the xenos were not technically lieformes (viruses are not technically alive). They were merely biomechanical weapons whose reproduction was limited to, and genetically confined to, other organisms. David's meddling incorporated the Queen and reproductive system, changing them from externalized viruses to true parasites, in other words, true, viable life forms.

In horror movies as a rule, the less you explain "the horror" part of it the better the movie is.

In this particular case Scott came to the franchise and overexplain things nobody ever wanted explained and in the process diminished the whole thing considerably.

And on top of that both Prometheus and Covenant are mediocre at best without factoring in their place in the franchise.
Covenant even more so since it simple doesn't function as a standalone story.

Basically the whole thing is a joke now.

Am I the only one who feels the mix of filming and editing in Alien made most xenomorph encounter scenes feel very... I don't know, hazy and abstract feeling.

To this day I have no idea what the alien was supposed to be hanging on in Brett's scene. As a kid I was confused but reasoned there must have been chains out of view. Then you see the extended scenes or just look at what's in the final cuts with any sort of scrutiny and realize that no. It's just fucking hovering. The alien can fly.
