Alien and Aliens are both great on their own right.
Alien is a horror movie, Aliens is an action movie the same way Teminator one is kind of a slasher movie and Terminator 2 is an action movie.

Which one is best will never be conclusive because movies belong to different genres.

Also Alien 3 was the last decent one... and ended just right. You keep fighting xenomorphs and one day your luck is gonna end. It's not a matter of if the Xeno is gonna win, it's a matter of when.

Resurrection, while mildly entertaining introduces some shit concepts. I mean, i enjoyed my Winona and all but the cloning, the enhanced Ripley and above all the shitty human like Xeno where just retarded choices.

As for Prometheus it was a terrible idea. Not only because the scientists should not be that retarded and all that... but trying to explain the Xenomorphs is just plain retarded.

The Xeno's strength is in not knowing and being unable to get close enough to study it.
The lack of knowledge is what makes it scary. You just know it's stronger, faster, more intelligent and overall better than humans... and that it's out there. A superior predator.

Trying to explain it is some sort of weapon or whatever it's utterly retarded. I just won't acknowledge this shit.
