The publicity of him singing off on the park would be great. Too many people stop their thinking process at the impossible and stop considering the facts. Bringing Malcolm makes a LOT more sense than bringing Grant, especially when you remember that Hammond is the antagonist of the story.

Grant was there because of Hammond's ego, he wanted an expert to marvel at his wonders. Malcolm was there to try and determine the probability of the park's systems failing, something Grant would know nothing about.

All of the obstacles the protagonists had to face were a result of Hammond's decisions and actions. That literally makes him the antagonist of the story, even though he's a well meaning character.
