I haven't seen the new cut, but apparently Mann restored the sequence of events to how they had originally been, with the power plant hack right before the third act. He put that scene at the beginning shortly before release because he felt he had to show what the stakes were right from the start. Hacking the Chicago Stock Exchange doesn't have the same oomph.

I really wanted to like this but it was just okay. What's different about the director's cut?

I saw the original director's cut when it premiered at BAMN. I'm not sure what he changed for the TV version but the BAMN version of the film reordered the attacks so the film started with the attack on the Chicago Exchange (pretty neat sequence with paper flying everywhere) and had the nuclear plant attack take place about 2/3rds of the way through to propel the characters into the 3rd act. There was also an entirely new, lengthy, scene in China where the FBI characters lost a tail at a hotel.

It made the film much tighter IMO and the sound mix was incredible.

I'll add for context - I'm a big Mann fan and think that the original cut of Blackhat was already one of his better films.

Cool. I hope this tv showing means a BD release is on the horizon. Maybe Criterion could hype it up and move some units. I don't know who else would release it if not them. Maybe some boutique label like Arrow or Shout!

So will i be able to torrent the DC anytime soon?

Why hasn't it come out yet? I've always wanted to watch it but people said it was shit. I like Hemsworth.

Hopefully there's a link soon. I've held back watching this until the DC is out.
