This, it sounds simplistic to say, but the mark of a good relationship is they bring out the best in each other (many relationships bring out the best in one person and the worst in the other). And bad relationships bring out the worst in both people. That was one of them.

And I don't exactly remember how it played out, but it was a fully normal thing for Roy to begin getting pissed that another man was making inroads with his woman. Sure, Jim never banged her but he was clearly reeling her in, little by little. Any man should be in tune with such things and nip them in the bud if possible... however, clumsy attempts at doing so, particularly threatening to kick his ass (which I think is what happened if I remember it right), can actually drive your woman right into the hands of another... which is exactly what happened. He just should have had a polite, but firm, talk with Jim, off of work hours (an important part) that she IS in a relationship and he needs to back off.... should have been accompanied by a lot of intensely direct eye contact with the other dude and a brutally firm handshake where the woman's bf doesn't let home. The words are friendly, but the demeanor shows that you're pissed and there *will* be consequences if he doesn't back down. Of course this is fiction, but had he done this Roy would have had a good chance of keeping his woman. Also the fact that you WERE willing to nip that situation in the bud with subtlety and manners (yet a subtle display of strength) would show that you're the higher male in that pecking order (a critical thing with women).
