Gave me nightmares for weeks when I watched it as a kid in the early 90s.

They are """"""""sequels"""""""", having almost nothing to do with the first one besides the title. Part two is so retarded that is kinda entertaining, though.

I really like that movie. It does a good job of balancing humor with some legit spooks.
I can't recommend the sequels, though. They just don't have the same magic.

KINO CONFIRMED

My kid self always liked the second one the best. The crazyness cranks up 3 times and it has the best character in the series.Bill! Electrician and part-time adventurer

Similar to Poltergeist in that it has genuinely cool themes and ideas hidden behind a haunted house story. Although Poltergeist's anti capitalism is much more subtle than House's trauma/family breakup stuff, House is still really effective at that side of things. It's a fun, well written, and well acted film though I did not find it particularly scary. Honestly the most impressive effects were not monster related for me and I thought the creature stuff was boring for the most part. Still very good little horror comedy with some deeper stuff going on, been meaning to rewatch this one for a while. Does a good job of being a lovable 80s horror movie without incredible disgusting gory practical effects, which as much as I love splattery stuff can get old after seeing so many gruesome deaths. Haven't seen any of the sequels
