I was actually surprised by how fucking evil he was. I thought he was just going to be a smug asshole.

>kills hundreds of his own children
>gives Peter's mom cancer, presumably did fucked up shit to all the other mothers
>his plan to make everything "him" would have killed trillions of people
>broke Peter's walkman

All the other villains seem pretty tame by comparison.
>>
>>82550884
he was an atheism 101's view of god just rolling out a perpetual death-and-try-again until a decent son is fit enough.

The plan to make everything "him" was basically "omg patriarchy just splurging everywhere, pure ego opening franchises, pure cancer reproducing" and Quill had to discard his god privilege to save black ladies in other planets because real-fathers-actually-blablabla

>>
>>82550780
Quill didn't say it like that. His line was more of a feels moment followed by Yondu's great delivery of the Mary Poppins line.
>>
>>82550592
Its loose jokes like these that make the whole thing enjoyable. I just didn't expect something so stupid to be said by that particular character so it took me by surprise when I lol'd at it.
>>
>>82551273
The five main characters from the first movie represent the five coping mechanisms from the Elizabeth Kubler Ross grief process. Peter Quill tries to diffuse conflicts by making deals so he's "Bargaining", Gamora rejects Peter's romantic advances so she's "Rejection", Drax is obviously "Anger", Rocket Raccoon is "Depression" (something people say in this stage is "I would have died eventually anyway" Rocket says "My species doesn't live that long anyway"), leaving Groot as "Acceptance" since he accepts the sacrifice he makes to save the others without hesitation. Ronan represents Death and the Guardians are how we cope with its inevitability. Other things people do to cope with death is make art, write music, dance and crack jokes which the series is littered with. Ego represents Life as a concept with the only goal of acquiring information and submitting all other life forms to its dominion. Ego is immortal and in this way offers Peter a way to cheat death and side step all of the grief that comes from confronting it. Peter's heroic sacrifice calls to mind Gilgamesh who accepts his own mortality as part of what makes the human experience beautiful.

He had no reason to believe Peter was going to be the single kid that inherited enough of the celestial genes.

He also had other alien bitches to go fuck
>>
>>82552366
But that actually happened. Thanos is obviously feared in the movie universe since all of the aliens call him the most powerful being in the universe, but casuals that make up most of the revenue for Marvel movies don't know that Thanos actually really is an incredibly powerful being and likely won't understand the end of this Infinity saga when he ends up defeating himself.
>>82552401

He loved a woman but his mission and calling were far more important. He knew this and there was a very brief moment that he actually thought of abandoning eons of planning and seeding for a single Earth woman who he grew fond of. But in the end his ego got the best of him. That's greek tragedy my main man. Simple but gut punching.

I thought it was akin to dying giving birth (or more like from conception/growing inside her, the tumor from the brain creating/processing a celestial kid/seed) so he "killed" her just as Quill "killed" her

If he simply killed her bc he's a meany that's really bad (though the other case isn't that nice either)

There isn't one joke or quote in this movie that wouldn't get you at least 50 upvotes. If you were a Bernie Sanders supporter, this flick is for you. If you own a fedora this flick is for you. If you like taking turns with your girlfriend getting rammed in the ass by imported black cock this flick is for you. If you're a normal fucking person who votes Republican and enjoys films about ideas, characters, and interesting settings this piece of shit flick is not for you and given the fact that there are no movies like that anymore because critics and audiences can't get enough meme superhero space shit you're better off just finding another hobby or killing yourself.

Peter not wanting to hurt his feelings or take away that moment from him was great. He let him have it. Pretty great relationship.

I'm a powerful bad guy. The key to conquering the galaxy is within my grasp. Do I fly my spaceship and get it myself? Or will I (Thanos, Ego) sit on my ass and get some shady punk (Loki, black guy, Gomorrah, Nebula, Yondu) to do it and screw everything up?

His next appearance will be in Infinity War, which takes place at least 4 years after Guardians 2. At this rate he will be full gown by then.

There are funny parts, but even then it doesn't capture the humor of the first movie.
Less action, Star-Lord doesn't do shit for majority of the movie.
Rocket is more of a dick, Drax lightens up, Gamora has family issues, Groot is a baby, and Mantis is a mix of comic relief and an outlet for other characters emotions.

>IM MARY POPPINS YALL

Nice tie-in with another one of your movies, Disney. Not exactly subtle or clever.

GotG and its sequel are quintessential examples of reddit humor and the difference between that and 4chan humor is pretty straightforward.

Reddit humor:
>pushed by corporations
>safe, middle of the road, insincere, appeals to a wide variety of interest groups
>glorifies the image of the product it is pushing
>conforms to corporate and elite interests
>anti-democratic
>created by committee to sell products
>tries too hard to become a meme and in the process embed itself within the minds of consumers to sell more crap related to the franchise (the entire character of Groot)

4chan humor:
>anonymous origins
>free, democratic, open source
>subverts corporate interests and intentions (Bane in TDKR used to attack the movie, not praise it)
>not created to push a product or message, but rather to amuse and humor individuals
>created for a specific group of enlightened users, not dumbed down for the masses
>memes are not forced by corporations, but rather become popular due to their innate appeal

Can we talk about how insanely overpowered Yondu was? He should have been way more successful than he was, because that arrow was ridiculous. Where did he get that thing from, and why don't more people use it?
>>
>>82561165
He's like one of those guys that's good at wave clearing, strong versus the the pawns, weak versus the main players.
>>
>>82551084
>he was an atheism 101's view of god

Or anybody who actually bothered to read The Bible or the mythology of the Greek pantheon.
>>
>>82560551

Nevermind the costume design.

>Nebula's all metallic, has robot eyes and voice
>Yondu's blue all over, even his tongue and insides of mouth, and has weird teeth and eyes
>Gamora just has a regular human mouth on the inside and normal human eyes with some funky eyeshadow around them

That shit instantly tells your brain that it's just someone in facepaint, because it's so superficial, especially when you go from a scene with Yondu talking to one with her. Hell, there are even scenes where you can see her lipstick having worn off for fuck's sake. She looks more like a B-movie alien than the aliens on that Defiance tv-show, despite the differences in budget.

They were thieves/smugglers, not hired killers, so he probably didn't actually get much use for it except as an intimidation thing.

There's probably not many people willing to interface some experimental technology directly with their brain just so they can kill people with a whistle-arrow that they have to learn how to control really well.

This was disappointing compared to the first. Drax was fucking obnoxious the whole time with his forced AHAHAHAHAHA moments, the Peter and Gamora romantic tension didn't make sense because I thought they had pretty much hooked up in the first movie already, Yondu dying was unnecessary (why didn't they keep the ship off the ground but still close by? Rocket knew Yondu was gonna try and save Peter). They honestly could have trimmed the movie down by 30 min because there was a lot of fluff.
I will say the scene where Ego admits he put the cancer in Merediths head was pretty good. Starlord is a good actor.

Overall the 1st is 7/10, this one was like a 6.
>>
>>82564053
The mom was a mortal. Ego's plan could not involve mortals. He had to kill her not to give up his plans because she was irrevocably incompatible with them.

So wait until it comes out on bluray and download a good rip like a normal person, idiot.

People who watch camrips are either mouthbreathing retards or poorfags. They don't want to or can't pay for a cinema ticket but they HAVE to watch the movie when it comes out for some godawful reason, most likely just to "fit in" with the people who watched it in the cinema. So they choose to watch the shittiest quality they can rather than making the sacrifice of either money or time, just to keep up the normie-charade.

You're literally worse than normies. They are what they are, they don't know any better. You ASPIRE to being one of them but can only pretend because you're so autistic.

He couldn't kill her immediately because his kid hadn't even been born by the time he left her. He didn't really kill her because he had to not to abandon his plan, giving her a slow-growing tumour was simply part of his original plan that he almost abandoned. He was making sure that his son wouldn't have any connection with earth that would stop him from going along with Ego's plan. Because kids are kind of reluctant to kill their mothers, and if the mother was kept alive on Ego then she'd obviously urge her child not to commit galactic genocide.

His original plan was to have Yondu deliver Quill right after his mother died. Then Ego would simply manipulate the distraught kid by first revealing himself as his father, making the kid feel happy that he's gained a parent just as he lost one, that he's not alone. Then he'd spend some father-son time making sure the kid had the connection with the source, while gaining the kid's love and trust by playing catch etc. Then he would bring up the plan to the kid and the kid would be very likely to take him up on it. Because a child who has just gone through the loss of its mother and is just starting to contemplate its own mortality is at the perfect stage to accept the offer of immortality/infinity from its space-god-father. The fact that Quill had time to grow up(even as emotionally stunted as he is) and gain attachments in the world is what made Ego's original plan fail.

I'm so emotionally disconnected from it that it didn't even cross my mind the first time I saw the movie. I just got a bit sad imagining losing my mom like that.
