oh I see what you mean. Ellen is the cleaning lady, correct? That means she represents someone who is able to instill order from chaos. Caden "becomes" her in order to try and regain order from his chaos (career wise, family wise, sanity wise).

by the end when he meets the real Ellen, the two are perfectly in sync, with her instructing his life by earpiece, which leads to a culmination of purpose, which is ultimately his death.
