It's based on a weird definition of "lost", where you don't lose the war until you actually surrender to the enemy. It's true that the US military was never at any risk of serious damage from the Vietnamese guerrilla fighters, but the Vietnamese won the propaganda war. Hollywood actresses like that bitch Fonda were flying to Hanoi to publicly support the communists and curse the US soldiers, that's how bad it got.

There are plenty of examples of larger powers brutally crushing and subjugating smaller ones really quickly after WWII. They were never particularly even, but as conflicts between two states I think they count as wars.

Thing is we pretty much took it over, eventually got sick of it because it was effectively unwinnable for a number of reasons, negotiated with the North, made a promise we wouldn't keep to the South, and bailed.

Official history: The North won, the South lost, America deals with the shame of not winning and wasting so many lives.
