>action movie sequel
>movie starts with character(s) mid-combat in mission that barley affects anything
Okay so that happens a lot but not all the time.
TDKR stars mid-CIA-mission and it literally affects the entire future of mankind.
name one movie

The Dark Knight
The Dark Knght Rises
Avengers 2
Civil War
Gaurdians of the Galaxy 2
Fuck, even Logan does it
You see where Im going with this
>>82476862
Never seen Logan but ALL of those affect the rest of the movies.

Haven't seen Logan or GoG2, but of the ones I've seen, only Avengers 2 really counts. In the other instances, they aren't really "mid-combat," but a tense situation that leads to combat which then "barely affects anything."
This actually has improved over the years. In the ones you mentioned, they actually relate to the plot, when often, the combat situation has really nothing whatsoever to do with the main conflict of the movie except that involves some of the same characters. I'm thinking of movies like the first three Indiana Jones films, which was actually a flaw the fourth one didn't have.

>tdk
That stolen money funded joker's schemes
>tdkr
pavel made the bomb and bane kidnapped him literally the A plot
>avengers 2
the sceptre they took made the main villain
>civil war
the mistake they made led to the civil war
>gotg2
the whole movie was a continuation of that acton scene
you're just dumb

Actually, like >>82476932 said, in Avengers 2, the battle does affect the plot, so that one doesn't count either.
Actually, in the Indiana Jones films I mentioned, it doesn't quite start mid-combat either.

Only Civil War counts in all your examples.

what is james bond
>>82476767
It's just a useful way for writers to show the capabilities of the characters and to pull the audience right in with some action.
>>82479426
K, but there are films that are able to make the opening sequence relate to the rest of the film, e.g., the James Bond films.
