Funny thing is I just remembered this film earlier, i discovered it because of its hype and i havent seen it yet but based on most internet shit it seems to be extremely overhyped and when i looked at imdb parents rating for this film, it doesnt sound as scary as everyone is saying, there were literally about 3 "scary" things listed there. i dont mean "scary" as in scary for me personally, but scary as in horror elements, its really an airy movie it seems. have u seen it

>>82445818
It's not scary at all, I can't watch things like Cronenbergs because I'm a pussy, but this film was okay.

There are some powerful and disturbing scenes though
>>
>>82445787
This movie is for you.
>>
>>82445818
>it doesnt sound as scary as everyone is saying,
The advertising for this fucked up bad. This movie is NOT a horror movie, it is horror second, coming of age drama first. It's not supposed to be a scary movie, but like a psychologically intense one.
>>
>>82445854
so i guess its kinda like lars von triers stuff its not necessarily scary but its like an art film huh
>>
>>82445737
I usually fucking hate horror films but i'm so attracted to this from the trailer, still waiting for the bd realese.
I didn't know it had The Do, holy shit I love them.

Iunno man, everyone has different tastes. This movie, for whatever reason just fucking clicked for me so hard. I've never fallen so in love with a movie more quickly than with this one, the main character being a qt may have something to do with that, so take this with a grain of salt, it's one of the best movies I've seen in years.

>>82445906
It's not a shitty shock horror like Serbian film or Antichrist, it's clever, subtle, evocative, poignant and very bittersweet for me. There's actually very little violence or gore, but what little there is is extremely effective because of how the scene is cleverly set up. I don't want to spoil anything but I will if anyone wants.

Film wasn't great but this song is great:

>>82445912
It's not a horror man, it's honestly not, there are like, literally 0 scares in the movie, no jump scares, no scary moments, just moments of tension and unease. There are also literally only like... 4 or 5 violent scenes and their really subdued.

OK so I actually had to have a long think about why the violence in this movie was so effective for me and I think I understand why now. Usually violence in movies is fantastic and spectacular, so much so that it's divorced from reality and you don't really think oh my god that person just lost an arm/got his face chewed off etc you go holy shit what a cool effect, the shock isn't there, its more a safe pleasure in seeing something visceral, safe because you know its fake.

There's this scene that starts with the character and her sister brushing their teeth, the sister plucks some stray hairs from the main characters eyebrow and asks her about her grooming habits, then goes on to get some wax to wax off her pubic hair, the wax strip gets stuck and the sister grabs a scissor to try cutting the hair. The main character doesn't like the idea so bucks her sister off, causing the scissor to cut off her sisters finger. Because the scene was so trivial, so utterly ordinary, your mind automatically just reverts to thinking of the scene as being real rather than something fictional and when the finger comes off, its deeply shocking because your minds still in that headspace of realism. Losing that finger was more shocking to me than seeing heads being blown off. The director really understands that subtlety is effective and I love her for it.

The scene after this is incredibly powerful and beautiful as well with great music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xeTXzC3jFY

>>
>>82446654
To add to this, I think it was clever because of how the movie lulls you into that headspace by slowly easing you into this ordinary situation. If it didn't have the patience to do the setup, if it just came out of nowhere, it'd be far less effective.

I honestly can't tell anymore if threads on movies like this and the void that nobody has heard about are shilling from the studio or if we just have a bunch of people here that like indie stuff.

I can't believe that a studio would actually pay to have people promote their film on a Singaporean bonzai tree trimming forum to try and get the autist audience for their film(especially knowing that most of them would just torrent it). Maybe they are made by family members of the movie cast/production that are also autists and want to promote their family's film in the only way they know how?

Either way it worked on me, I love that kind of music and never tell people about it because I think it's too girly

I read the article. It's about how slut-shaming is an American thing and French people aren't generally familiar with the term, and how as a woman it's rude to make fun of another woman because of how she dresses or how she has sex since it's none of your business.

Unlike in the US, slut-shaming is still (especially in 2012) a fairly obscure term. The gist of the article is "mind your own business".

>>
>>82469962
A whole bunch but it's a very raw, trivial nudity that's very tasteful I thought. The movie never makes a big deal of the nudity like American films, it's just there and nothing special. The nudity is literally rarely the focus of the camera, it's out of focus or in the background or poorly lit or off to the side. I really appreciated how refreshing and mature this take on nudity was.
>>
>>82470015
I'm autistic, how does it make you look like a weirdo because I plan on getting one too.

It's the non-American way.

I'd like to think Master & Commander introduced some people to the Vaughan Williams "Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis".

It makes me think of England as something deeper and older than more conventionally 'patriotic' music, flags and all that bullshit.

This is a good version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihx5LCF1yJY

(Was actually designed to be played in Gloucester Cathedral with that specific seating arrangement with reference to its acoustics).

I also love this as a fusion of music and kino:

I like how the red pops and the blood alone makes you wonder what's going on. I like the tagline because of the exclamation point, which to me seems corny in a self aware way and reminds me of something you'd see on a mid century sci fi film.

The age of consent is lower in France. Iirc it's like 14. Some places it's 13. And besides, it's a woman and a girl not a man and a girl so it's not as bad.
>>
>>82476423
It doesn't really bother me either way. I do find your statement interesting though. You seem to be implying that sexual predation enacted by a female is more acceptable than by a male. Does that belief rest solely on the absence of penetration in a lesbian relationship?

I agree that a lesbian relationship is probably less harmful, but I'm interested to hear why you think so.
>>
>>82476495
>It doesn't really bother me either way
I hope that's only because she's 13 and that's hebephelia rather than pedophilia.

Iunno, I just imagine it's a gross mid 40s old dude taking advantage of someone young and abusing them. I imagine the relationship is more about sex specifically the guys desire to fuck someone young which I find gross. If it's two women I feel like the relationship is less about the physical sex and more wanting to be with the other.
>>
>>82477223
I think anywhere from 12-16 is a grey area that's entirely dependent on the maturation rate of the individual. And I agree with what you're saying. From what I've witnessed, it seems women place more emphasis and importance on the emotional/romantic aspects of a relationship than men do. And I say that as a man.

Cutting off a clit with scissors is so meaningful and artistic. Yeah nah it's trash shock horror
>>
>>82478657
It's completely meaningful because sex is a central theme in the plot of the movie. Did you even watch it, or are you just shit posting?

It's people like you that are causing the death of horror. Antichrist was more terrifying and had more oppressive and dread filled atmosphere than any horror movie released since that point. Kys yourself and stick to your bullshit 'coming of age horror' '''films''' faggot

What makes it a shitty shock horror is it's need to express it's themes through clit scissoring. There are better ways to convey substance than that.

Oh you are such a fucking pleb, we've left the age of shitty slashers, Friday 13ths and your complaining about it when we've gotten witch, it follows, under the shadow and the wailing to name a few in return. Horror is finally good now. The witch specifically has a much more dread filled and tense atmosphere than anti Christ while also managing to be beautiful, tasteful and meaningful.

Holy shit lmao. I bet you think The babadook was great as well, right? Fuck off retard. The only thing I can think of that comes close to antichrist (a movie you haven't seen/didn't understand) in terms of atmosphere was Goodnight Mommy, something I doubt you've even heard of because you're a fucking pleb. So that makes me sorta curious, when you saw it was it dubbed or subbed? Must be a real hassle releasing anything in Europe, you gotta redub/sub it like 30 times.

only kids movies get dubbed here (they still show the original english version as well), everything else is subbed
>>
>>82481781

That's still gotta be a hassle surely, so much must get lost in translation. Like there's this one song >>82446025 posted and I looked up the lyrics, its completely fucking different from what was subbed in the movie, and the movies subs for that song sorta confused me.
