So where did the Event Horizon travel? Did it literally go through hell?
>>

through the warp and into slaaneshs butthole

Yes. Also>>82436233
>>
>>82436233
So is this an accurate depiction of what a crew would go through without the gellar fields up or is that just a meme
>>
>>82436214
there is literally no source of hell ever being this autistic
>>
>>82436214
That corpse looks like it has googly eyes.
>>
>>82436279
Going through the Warp in 40k with fields would be risky. Dozens of loyal men and women on the Imperium are taken in the blink of an eye. No one knows where. No one knows why.
>>
>>82436340
How is this at all autistic?
>>
>>82436373
40K lore is so comfy. I'd love a legit adaptation of a crew going through the warp, or one of the first psykers being mentally tortured by a daemon and not knowing what was going on.
>>
>>82436393
because his version of hell is full of buzzwords
>>
>>82436279
well, at least they didn't encounter any Enslavers or Psychneuein on their trip
>>
>>82436393
>>82436433
since we're not on your favorite website - reddit, i can use autistic freely without being banned by the SJW mods

but what I meant is that there's no reason for calling those scenes in Event Horizon "Hell" because there are no mentions of it being full of blood orgies and gore.

it went to the universe where hillary became president.

Psykers draw on the warp to use their powers. Daemons live in the warp and eat dead souls, because when you die your soul goes into the warp. Since psykers maintain an active link, Daemons can see them while they're alive. They can't just eat them while they're living outside the warp, but they can sort of dive into them via the link and possess them instead.
>>
>>82436763

The immaterium is basically the psychic energy of the entire population of sentient beings in the galaxy. When enough fuckery goes on a demon or demon god is created that inhabits the immaterium.

Psykers draw power from the immaterium and are at risk of being possessed or driven insane pretty much any time they draw power from it. Chaos psykers either directly work for the demons or are powerful enough to use them (all while serving the demon gods).

Ships that "warp" have to travel through the immaterium with the gellar fields that produce a bubble of reality to prevent the ship and crew from being raped by all the demons.
>>
>>82436763
>>82436854
Psykers are basically a bright tasty light to the fuckdeathmurdermoths that are daemons.
>>
>>82436432
I love reading the 40k wiki but I can't imagine actually getting into the series. It's just too much effort for a scenario that is ultimately one really long joke.

>>
>>82436859

>>
>>82436892

The Guant's Ghosts series is pretty light reading and it's a lot of action. You don't have to memorize who each Primarch is, it's just basically just a bunch of lumberjacks who get their planet blown up then have to eternally fight in various conflicts.
>>
>>82436892
>It's just too much effort for a scenario that is ultimately one really long joke.
thats not even the hell of playing (and paying far more than you should) only for your faction to be deemed a bitch faction, and being ignored for updates/just used to make others seem good

He's the culmination of all the human psykers on earth in ancient times deciding to kill themselves at the same time to fuse their psychic powers together into one supreme being to lead mankind.
>>
>>82436957
Nope. He was functionally an anti-daemon. Daemon's refer to him as "the anathema" and just being near him causes smaller daemons to just evaporate. Bigger ones just get pain and blindness.

He's basically the D&D concept of positive energy bound into a dude.
>>

>>
>>82438469
It's just over exaggerations in the name of being edgy and "grimdark". The vast majority of the ships aren't that old, there aren't really that many slaves, the warp travel really isn't that unreliable, etc. In reality, it'd be like taking an old sail boat from the age of the sail from London to Mumbai. Dangerous at times and with definite chances of attack, death, and the travel time is a guesstimate.

Obviously played for comedic effect but it gets under my skin that people take it as canon.

Well even when not over exaggerated is seems really brutal.
>>
>>82438547
It is a dimension created by the emotions of mortals. Because of the CONSTANT WAR its a pretty shitty place. Demons from the four Chaos Gods live here. If the Gellar field fails the people inside DO get fucked, but this isn't all that common. Like an ocean the warp has currents that a Navigator can ride their ship on to get to their destination. The currents of the warp can send a ship every which ways even through time. Warp storms can cut off planets for years

It's a dimension given form by the cumulative emotions of all sentient beings in the galaxy or universe. The daemons within are a manifestation of aspects of emotion. The 4 biggest being the blood god, lord of murder and hate, the lord of change and cunning, the prince of pleasure and the father of disease and entropy. they do bad things to people and then eat our souls when they're done.

>>82438469
The time dilation happens but not always to that extent. Sometimes they arrive earlier than the date they set off from, sometimes they arrive 100 years later, but most of the time its pretty close. It's not that unreliable, also losses of 80% aren't typical. There are slave gangs that load munitions though, on the bigger ships they're usually a breed of subhumans that are exceptionally large and strong but its not always that grimdark. It's just played up too much to to appear more edgy.

the whole torture thing isn't quite founded

According to some God=good, as in they are almost synonymous to be "good" is to be Godly

Hell is the complete absence of God, which could be seen as a complete absence of "good" or anything with that quality, which an absence of good, could be described as bad/torture etc.

this is just what some people think, though if you want the truth just spend several lifetimes learning ancient Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, while also learning the historical contexts of thousands of years of time while accurately guessing anything not absolutely clear :^)

some questions

are all the big bad demons directly antagonistic/seek the end of mankind?

Could all the demons be starved/destroyed by an end of their respective quality (IE stopping all war and murder somehow)

How did emotion become the warp/demons? Is it just intrinsic to the universe?

How do demons enter reality?

Which faction is most likely (I know it will never end) to win the grand war?

Demon like to fuck with mortals but they don't want to actuallu win the war because yes they would get starved out.
Khorne used to be the god of honour not BLOOD, so yes it is possible to change their nature but you would have to get all mortals to change. This include ayylmaos
Demons use psykers as their own personal portals to enter realspace. Or they go through the eye of terror, the eye is a huge gaping hole left from the Eldar fucking a Chaos god into existence.
Each faction has their own trump card but it come down to three in the end it all a matter of time
>Imperium: it is established that more and more humans are becoming psykers if they can evolve in time they win

>>
>>82439197
>are all the big bad demons directly antagonistic/seek the end of mankind?
Literally none of the Gods of Chaos want to end humanity because they are invested in us. We feed them through our emotions and should we die, they die too, which is why there are groups within the Imperium trying to end humanity and the threat of Chaos. There's also a 5th Chaos God, Malal who embodies the chaotic nature the Immaterium and pursues self destruction.

>Could all the demons be starved/destroyed by an end of their respective quality (IE stopping all war and murder somehow)
Yes

>How did emotion become the warp/demons? Is it just intrinsic to the universe?
Uh, not totally sure on this one. I think in the 40k universe emotions are akin to just a universal property like The Force that permeates reality. Initially this force could be drawn on without problem, but after excessively using it, some large respective spark gave birth to each of the chaos gods. Slaanesh, god of pleasure is the newest Chaos God and he was born a couple tens of thousands of years ago after the Eldar had too big an orgy and became too hedonistic.

>How do demons enter reality?
Through anchor points, usually psykers. Portals to the Warp can be created through all sorts of ways, rituals, sacrifices, wars, prayer or if a particular God just focuses hard on that spot. The problem with the Warp is that its a memetic threat. It corrupts the mind, one guy tainted by Chaos can carve Chaos symbols everywhere unseen in a city, these symbols whisper into peoples minds and turn the weak willed into more slaves of Chaos. This can quickly spiral out of control as they hold rituals to gain the attention of the Chaos Gods.

>Which faction is most likely (I know it will never end) to win the grand war?
No idea. I'll have a think
>>
>>82439398
>Malal
What is this Heresy
>>
>>82439197
So, because Chaos thrives on death and emotion and such, the actual end goal is for war to never end. This is evident because when a chaos invasion happens on a low-tech planet that are using muskets, for instance, the chaos invaders generally use the same level of technology. However, different sects of chaos have different end goals and different chaos aligned entities have actual agendas that involve destroying mankind.

The Eldar are largely responsible for the fuckery that is the warp.

There are a million different ways that demons can enter reality. The basis of Warhammer is that you could take any other paranormal story from any other IP and it could happen in 40k. So everything from that mirror shit in Constantine to blood sacrifices are fair game.

In theory, with the current progression towards endgame, mankind will die, the Eldar will die or run away, the Tau will likely die or create some kind of fuckery defensive matrix and become benign. The Tyranids will take over everything until they run into Orks, who will likely battle the Tyranids literally forever. However, the Orks' only objective is to fight, so that's kinda a winning scenario for them. The most likely to dominate the galaxy are the Tyranids by a longshot. Necrons are a wildcard.

It's not. The reason the emperor finally got his shit together after 30k years was because he saw humanity was eventually going to be full of psykers, and they needed guidance before they all fell to warp fuckery.
>>
>>82439480
I don't know anything about the lore, I am the one that asked the questions that began that reply

It would seem that demons will NOT wipe out humans because it would be self destructive, and it can be presumed that self destructive demons would be fought by typical demons and humans

When it comes purely to the demon/human war, humans have an infinite amount of time to win, so presumably they could find a way eventually if there is one

>>82439398
so why do demons attack humans, just because of malice? Or to sustain the emotion that makes them? Both?

Do the demon gods want their nature to change? If khorne was somehow brought to the brink of being the god of honor, would he have internal struggle?

Demons do what they were made for
Khorne demons KILL MAIM DESTROY
Tzeentch demons make plans and plans within plans
Nurgle demons spread disease
Slaaneshi demons muderfuck
Chaos Gods(Tzeentch specifically) often take steps to prevent the status quo from changing and would likely do all they can to prevent change of themselves since it might lead to a loss of power and therefor status among the others
>>
>>82436760

>>
>>82439732
so they all have an intrinsic desire for power?

As in goals = Power>Current nature>everything else?

What if somehow all emotional beings desired to be as weak as possible
>>
>>82439638
>When it comes purely to the demon/human war, humans have an infinite amount of time to win,
Not necessarily, just because Chaos doesn't want to wipe out humanity, doesn't mean it doesn't want to convert all of humanity into Chaos tainted cultists and perpetually raise us on planet wide battery farms to be tortured or fight for their amusement. If they can destroy the Imperium and our infrastructure, our ability to fight is obliterated and its over essentially. If the Imperium fractures, no one will be able to restore it and humanity will lose eventually.

>so why do demons attack humans, just because of malice? Or to sustain the emotion that makes them? Both?
To create and sustain conflict, also Khorne's people kill us because they like violence. Nurgles people attack us because they're just trying to spread their gift of disease. Slaanesh's people fight us because they enjoy our sensations, both pleasure and torture. Tzeetch fights because he likes the interesting plans and changes we bring, he fights because its interesting.

>Do the demon gods want their nature to change? If khorne was somehow brought to the brink of being the god of honor, would he have internal struggle?
No idea.
>>
>>82439778
>What if somehow all emotional beings desired to be as weak as possible
If you could get most sentient being to commit to feeling one emotion, like love compassion and empathy, that would be an automatic victory over Chaos. But that's just not a rational scenario.

It's not really for mortals to say what the goals of Chaos Gods are, I don't think they have a desire for power, but for existence and the joy their existence brings. They each like doing their own thing and they don't like when the other ones get more powerful because it means they can't do as much of their own thing.

>>
>>82439778
All we know for certain is they don't want to be weaker than the others. They have a tenuous peace because they are all roughly the same in power, plus its hard to destroy a god. Other than that we know they do have agency in what they do but they clearly have a nature formed from the emotions of mortals that they usually follow. If you could get all mortals(not just humans) in the galaxy to go through with it they would become a non issue. But their is still the very real physical threat of the Necrons and the C'tan

>>
>>82437280

>He was Jesus, Muhammad, Buddah, etc right?

No. He might have been Muhammed but Jesus was simply way too soft for the Emperor. One example of emps childhood is that he was preparing his fathers bones for burial, and when touching a hole in the skull he had a vision where he saw his uncle murdering his father. He then went to his uncle and killed him by looking at him angrily.

Not exactly a case of "What would Jesus do?"

With Muhammed you can see many paralells between the two. Both fought wars to unify humanity but also ended up faiing to do so and ultimately create an internal schism that seems unresolvable. Really these similarities are mostly just due to both characters being conquering warlords more than anything else.

>>
>>82440178

>>
>>82436279

Yes and no.

The warp and daemonic influence in general in 40K are fairly inconsistent (which isn't to say one portrayal is more accurate then another, just that the warp is capricious in how it works).

Unmitigated exposure to the warp may simply result in a large-scale daemonic incursion- a force of daemons board your ship and start trying to kill everything. This is relatively speaking the most easily dealt with situation as it isn't much different from fighting pirates or something- just kill the invaders.

On the other hand warp exposure can lead to mass corruption where the crew get possessed en masse or brainwashed into destroying the ship. Sometimes, the ship simply comes apart. Sometimes everyone on the ship just disappears without a trace.

I'm pretty sure that in modern lore most of the chaos gods can get power even from natural occurances, like planets colliding and shit.

But yeah, chaos gods want to corrupt everyone and bring Hell on Earth. They don't kill cultists or loyalists, they just let them be and do their bidding. The gods will, however, fight between themselves to become the only one left alive. To do, they will use their cultists and demons, so humans still have things to do.

>>82442860
>They don't kill cultists or loyalists

Unless you're a Khorne cultist, in which case it's kill or be killed because the blood god does not care from where the blood flows, only that it flows.

Tzeentch would probably kill you in a heartbeat if his plans required it, but if your a good cultist than he probably has plans for you, which may or may not involve you dying.

Slaanesh probably wouldn't kill you because your too fun to play around with. With that said, I'd much rather just be dead than be Slaaneshs plaything.

Nurgle would probably be the least likely to kill his own cultists. He has that whole jolly paternal motiff going on, and he is all about death and rebirth. Nurgle cultists are notoriously hard to kill anyway.

So I guess most chaos gods don't typically kill their own, but it's not unheard of for them to either kill cultists who have failed them or worse. More than the gods themselves, it's the traitor legions who usually have a complete disregard for the lives of chaos cultists.

The Rich man and Lazarus is a parable, Hell in this case represents the rich man, the ruling pharisees, being forever cut off from the Lazarus class, The Disciples and later the Apostles and other First Century Christians who'd follow Christ, were literally in the bosom of Abraham, in this sense, they were in the bosom of Christ and was especially Loved by him. His spirit was with them every step of the way. He literally told them his Father has given him an inheritance, them, and he'd be with them through thick and thin.
You see, when the bible says Torment you have to ask yourself, To Whom views eternal death as Torment. Remember, God has never slept, he doesn't understand sleep like we do, and to be bound in sleep unable to awake for God, is a torment. You were a once thing but now you're forever bound to not existence, To God that would be torture. Existence is paradise, it's a literal gift. Don't be fooled by what happens in Satan's system and don't view the world through the eyes of one who suffers here, In God's bright beautiful system, the only message will be his, the only pleasures will be the purest ones void of Satanic influences.
I am scum. Even on my best days I'm still bound by sin's law because I'm filth, a low life scum bastard. I should be beaten often for my sins, I am a dirty and bad, and I'm occupied with sin's measure and sin's pleasure. What a disgusting monster I am. I do study when able and I question, everyone about everything, and in my searches I found this.

It traveled in time to right after the writers wrote the first draft to the third act.

That explains why a movie that was doing so well and had such promise fell apart and became a 6.

No, it's not great. You were created to live forever, not be here suffering awfully then die eternally. Forever is our measure. Sadly, too many people believe in never to be proven big bangs and impossible unions of consecutive left handed molecules, Trillions of times consecutively left, up to the most complicated purposeful information ever, DNA. Brownian motion is a random application of states, to solely link, consecutively, twenty left handed molecules unto a protein molecule and to do so, trillions of times and be able to use these linking mechanism to describe in detail a chemical story that describes and commends and adheres to, life, even in its simplest form is several Trillion Quintillion against such a thing being at all possible. That's like saying a gorilla's smashing on a key board for a billion years but is able to write flawless the code for Windows 10 which is 43 million lines of purposeful code. Amazingly, human DNA is well over 3 billion tiers of purposeful code. But Of course you have observable proof of your messiah, the magical amino acid that not only self created but went on to form life and of this magical messiah and his apostles, the alele frequency that apparently existed in life for whatever reason that afforded one creature to become its successor species.

In short, for any of it to be real, you'd have to provide for us observable, testable, recreate able proof of Creature A, slowly, purposefully, becoming Creature B, and the evidence has to be both genetic and skeletal of one creature slowly, becoming its successor species. Otherwise it never happened.

Dark Eldar are Coldsteel tier edgy.

In my opinion one of the most grimdark pieces of fluff/ lore is that, in order to produce anti daemon ammo for their weaponry, the Grey Knights sacrifice an innocent citizen for each and every fucking bullet. That or the thousands of too weak psykers that are sacrificed to help the Emperor power his Golden Throne every day.
>>
>>82445446
no, they are terrified of chaos, more so the normal Eldar, because Slaneesh is slowly eating away at their souls, so they have to capture prisoners and torture them in horrific ways, both for their enjoyment and to fill that ever draining hole

for edgy, I'd say Dark Eldar. not only do they look like 90s pop metal band, not only are they a race of space pirates and slavers, they literally have to rituastically torture themselves and their slaves to create as much sensations as possible and consume other peoples souls to avoid their own souls being consumed by chaos god Slaneesh

The Hive Cities can also be considered grimdark. Giant ant mounds inside closed off hulls, stuffed with billions of people because the air outside is death. Imagine several layers of Hong Kong stacked upon several, progressively more shit-filled layers of Delhi with a normal city on top and everyone below is a disposable pleb that will never see sunlight or a ceiling that isn't less than 3m high unless they enlist in the Imperial Guard in which case they get trained and deployed to one hellish war or another where their average length of survival is 15 hours.

Books? First of all I'd recommend not starting with any Space Marine fanwank.

Eisenhorn trilogy is a good starting point. It's the story of an Inquisitor doing inquisitorial things - it introduces more mundane bits of the setting without going overboard.

Gaunt's Ghosts is a metric fuckton of books following an Imperial Guard regiment.

Ciaphas Cain books by Sandy Mitchell are a more humorous telling of an egotistical and more than slightly sociopathic Commissar who, in his quest for a peaceful job somewhere far removed from the front lines, gets himself deep in shit and every time he digs himself out his fame grows, so he keeps getting shittier and shittier assignments.

Of course you could also start with the Horus Heresy series. A very, very lengthy retelling from the 30th century of how it came about that the 40th century is such a colossal clusterfuck.

>>82446012

It's 50/50. Fleeings a possibility that fits with the nature of 40k, but the idea of something so vast it consumed a galaxy and wants another is also quite terrifying. I don't really like the idea of fleeing because it implies some kind of eldritch horror that even Tyranids can't handle, 40K's not really about the eldritch impossible horrors but physical threats.
>>
>>82446828
>disinformation kike strikes again.

Gehenna, Hades and Tartaros are all mentioned in the bible. The only thing Dante invented is the structurized and almost bureaucratic process of sorting sinners and applying an ironic punishment.

Just because G_d's Chosen People don't have to concern themselves with hell, doesn't mean you can push your heresy on Christians.
>>
>>82445884
That's not actually accurate for the Imperial Guard across the board. The 15 hour survival life is just from that specific story
>>
>>82446982

Do you really not understand how words in ancient texts work or are you shekeling me, Itzhak? To clarify - for abstract concepts they couldn't just make up a word like we are doing right now and assume everyone knew what it meant so they chose well known words for the same thing.

It's actually hilarious. He gets assigned the most dangerous fucking war zones time and time again and his troops and everyone else thinks he loves it and he has to keep up appearances or risk being executed.

It's actually crazy how good he's gotten because of all this bad luck. He once fought a chaos space marine in a sword battle and survived long enough for help to kill the marine. An ordinary human lasting against a space marine in melee combat essentially never happens.
>>
>>82447040
I feel like thats a bad theory. The orks would never try to exterminate them for fear of losing out on glorious endless war. The tyranids get a massive and rapidly replenishing fungal farm the size of a galaxy. It's win-win.

I'll offer up some edge from the Imperium, i.e. the protagonist faction.

>Arcoflagellants
Heretics whose sins are considered so grave that simple death is not sufficient might be granted the punishment/mercy of arcoflagellation. They are converted into living weapons to redeem their sins through glorious combat, whether they wish to or not. Arms are sheared off and replaced with electro-flails or pneumo-claws. Flesh filled with combat drugs and implants that confer superhuman strength and speed at the cost of mindshattering rage and agony.
Between combat they are kept sedated by the action of yet more drugs and the Pacifier Helms permanently sealed over their heads. These replace all sensory input with calming hymns and religious iconography. Only at the command word of the Inquisitor that owns them do the helms switch off and free the arcoflagellants to rush towards the Emps enemies in an orgy of blood and death.
According to some sources the agony they endure and good deeds they commit are supposed to purify the arcoflagellants souls in order to better feed the God-Emperor when they die and he absorbs their souls.

>Penitent Engines
Similar but somewhat more voluntary.
These are weapons of war employed by the Adepta Sororitas or Sisters of Battle. Typically 'crewed' by religious figures, either priests of the Ecclesiarchy or sisters of the Sororitas that have committed some grave sin and wish to repent. Again the process starts with an agonising cocktail of superdrugs but these sinners are then crucified on the front of giant bipedal mechs armed with enormous flamethrowers and power-field emitting circular saws. Hardwired into the control system of the mechs with fibreoptic cables to the spine these tortured penitents then charge at the frontlines of enemy forces frantic to redeem their sins and end their suffering. Of course the many chem-injectors stabbed into their veins are designed to delay this release as long as possible
>>
>>82447248
> or risk being executed.

It's more that he doesn't want to meet the fate of most zealous Commissars - 'accidental' friendly fire so he pretends to be a warloving hero that cares about his troops.
