>be newbie director
>create your first feature film
>accidentally create a masterpiece, a classic, or at least a really good film through the power of dumb luck
>end up proving your incompetence with almost every subsequent release

George Lucas. Although his masterpiece accidental masterpiece was his second film.

third, don't forget THX1138
Also Trevorrow. Safety Not Guaranteed was really well done (probably duplass' input) and Jurassic world was trash. Same vein as Johnson with filmography

What? Shya-ma-la-ma-ding-dong has had some turds. But he has done ok with the 11 films he was involved with. He is no Scorsese or Kubrick. But he isn't incompetent.

Everything past unbreakable has been pure garbage.
Though I haven't seen spilt yet, and I've at least heard it's good. But that could just be because most everything he's made before it has been utter shit, so a movie that's even just mediocre looks good in comparison.

I hate him so fucking much.
Hate. Hate. Hate.
>>82400305
Shyamalan isn't incompetent he's a good filmmaker. The problem is he is known for his reliance on shocking twists which is why he's become a meme with normies and kids.
Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable, Split... are all good movies. I wouldn't call any of them masterpieces but they are good movies. Only plebs and normies disagree.

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are his only good movies. Everything else has been a slow roll downhill in terms of quality.
Neill Blomkamp
