I was calling Hannah melo dramatic all the way through the series, but once you get to Bryce's tape it makes sense. All of the other events didn't really contribute to the suicide. They were merely just Hannah getting things off her chest. The show needed a big event to trigger the suicide to avoid getting that petty label, and the rape did just that. Glad Netflix went that route.

No wonder Justin is so screwed up in the present time. He could have prevented two rapes from going down.

Yeah as much as I hate to admit it, this show was pretty excellently executed.

It pisses me off because the concept doesn't deserve to work. Hannah is annoying as all hell. Recording tapes like that is obnoxious. But it all kinda just comes together.

Clay's performance is outstanding and the use of foreshadowing is really well done. The writing is legitimately great and anyone denying that doesn't understand what good writing is.

I like how it showed the lack of involvement by parents in the lives of their kids. Almost every kid's parents were shown (minus the poetry guy), and each set was oblivious to what was going on in the lives of their kids. My favorite scene might be Jessica confessing her rape to her dad in the final episode, pretty deep stuff.

I feel that this show was a way of showing how women think. Notice how many people did little nothing, but ended up on that list. Like the one guy straight up listened to her when she said stop and leave, but she really wanted him to keep going. She wanted to be "raped" with this logic, but instead gets upset and offs herself because he didn't turn into a rapist.

The book/show isn't saying she was right about all the people she blamed. It's pretty obvious that a lot of the people she blames for her death really don't deserve it.

She's mentally unwell, which she pretty bluntly admits to throughout her tapes. She's emotionally volatile and prone to toxic behaviors which aim to minimize external real or perceived rejections. She's a prime candidate for BPD.

The point isn't that she's right, or not a complete cunt. But that you need to be kind to everyone because you don't know if the person you wrong is as unwell and vulnerable as she was. You never know if the person you attack simply is unable to properly handle it.

This show is just going to insult you beyond belief.
It's not sublte, it's not well written and it doesn't handle the "depression/suicide" aspect with any nuance, depth or care.

The acting's fine, the pacing's shit.
