>Listen up you fucking morons, this is NOT accurate.
>1) The amount of thrust the hammerhead would need to push a ship with that kind of mass in that amount of time (10 seconds) is inconceivable. Picture a tiny speedboat pushing the Titanic completely off course into an iceberg in 10 seconds-- that's right, you can't because that doesn't make any fucking sense.
>2) The starship destroyer is not made out of the same material as the hammerhead's front battering ram. It's most likely a material that is much weaker, because that would be expensive as fuck to coat an entire ship in essentially diamonds. Therefore, the hammerhead would pierce through the star destroyer long before it would be able to push it into another ship

>>82325078
Yes. Its the same reason Superman cannot actually lift buildings no matter how strong he is.
>>
This is kinda cool, but what makes it fucking stupid is why didn't they do this in any other movie?
>>
>>82325078
I don't think its a huge "physics plothole" because the only resistant force to the ship's thrust is the larger ship's inertia in zero-G (which is purely a function of mass.)

However, assuming all building materials to be roughly equal, if engine thrust was enough to collapse ship material, then I think it would follow that the Star Destroyer's own engines would tear the ship apart when activated.
However, the impaction of the smaller ship's nose makes sense because that's ship's nose was applying force at a point (like a knife or a needle) until it dug in a little.

Also not a physics person, but that's what I see.

this, assuming the ships are all made of the same comic-book indestructible material as the Hammerhead.

Honestly I might, MIGHT be able to accept the Hammerhead ramming into a Star Destroyer and not getting pancaked if it was literally solid with no voids. But if it's a spacecraft with a cabin it's dumb, that's a structural weakness for something like ramming. Rams need to be solid.

they're drawing the line at ship collisions? but space magic is just part of the setting

all you have to do is slow this interaction down by a factor of 5 or so and it starts making a lot more sense, the large ship would need light sections and sturdy sections, and this basic plan would be public knowledge

still its weird that anyone would build a capital ship like this and not have a plan for this sort of thing

Since the armor on the ships was too strong to pierce, the rebels simply EMP'd the whole destroyer to leave it floating dead in the figurative water. it has its large broadside guns for capital ship engagements (which are rarely used because they are slow as fuck and cant hit shit), but the majority of its weaponry is on the top, with very small (CIWS type) turrets on the side. too small to do any damage to anything larger than a starfigher.

Even if tug boats could produce enough force to move a container ship (by my calculations impossible), they'd just tear off whatever mounting point you attached them to and probably take half the ship with them.

It would imply something about tactics. British sea power was the result of having more ships of the line than other powers. Not because of numerical advantage in combat itself but purely because they were prepared to use them as they had more in reserve.

Well there is still no time because it doesn't exist.

Tug boats move container ships all the time. Before bow/stern thrusters became common, most ships used tugs to pull them off the berth.

But a tug boat, even a powerful one, can't push it much faster than 0.5 knots sideways, and that's without wind or current, in which case you need more tugs.

>The biggest problem with this scene is that is screams of lazy script writing.
kek ok. Spend the entire third act doling out the space naval battle with the Destroyer getting disabled and nothing else working so they call a Hammerhead. Cut to hammerhead arriving a few scenes later and fucking shit up.
>brilliant
It's exactly the kind of shit the rebels should be shown doing in Star Wars. Once again the contrarian dipshits latch onto an actually-great aspect of the movie because they're too stupid to appreciate anything.

ANH opens with the famous shot of the small rebel cruiser being pursued by the cartoonishly huge imperial destroyer or whatever. It's a great visual metaphor. Rogue One took the concept and used a similar visual metaphor to show how the rebels can manage to fight an overwhelmingly superior force. A small ship literally using the empire's own size against it to destroy the shield was fucking great screenwriting.

have you seen the fucking movie mate? big ship was hit with an EMP blast and all its engines and shields were disabled

You gone full retard

ITT: people who don't understand the difference between speed and acceleration. I bet most of you dont realise that to slow down in space you actually have to turn your ship around and thrust in the opposite direction.

>what are physics

Irrelevant. tbphwyf.

It's a cinematic universe with casual faster than light travel.

The Death Star is a weapon the size of a moon that parks directly next to a planet and blows the planet up, somehow without getting pulverized by all the planet shrapnel flying towards it as the closest thing with mass and a gravitational pull.

exactly. and it's shit.

Why would they cut through each other? They would just bump off each other. There's nothing holding the bottom ship in place.

How is it ridiculously impractical? Basically every manned spaceship we've send into space had thrusters all of the place. You think it's MORE practical to only put thrusters on the back and sides (can't turn without side thrusters), put nothing on the bow, then use a fuckton of energy making using thrusters to pull off a 180 turn. Just to decrease speed?

You put thrusters on the front dingus. Don't be thick.

>>82336839
So if a space ship is moving forward through space without thrusters on the bow but with thrusters on both sides pointing perfectly perpendicular from the direction of travel, and you applied equal thrust at the same time on both sides, would that decrease or increase the speed that the ship is moving through space?
>>
>>82336839
Every manned spaceship we have sent in to space has one main thruster used for acceleration and lots of small thrusters for rotation controll. I dont know where you got the idea that it takes a lot of energy to spin in space, there is no resistance to spinning if you are not accelerating. The manned moon missions accelerated to an eliptical orbit that intersected with the moons orbit, then once past the moon the ship was turned around and decelerated in to a circular moon orbit. Having large thrusters on all faces of a ship is a logistical nightmare. It would increase weight exponentially. More weight = more fuel to reach the required delta v.

You best be trolling lad
>>
>>82336941
No but depending on the thrust it would crush the ship or send you in to a spin if the directions of the thrusters aren't exactly opposite

Keep sucking mousecock, guys. Disney recycle the KOTOR-era (which includes the KOTOR comics and Tales of the Jedi) for everything, the hammerheads were just part of that, like Kylo Ren's helmet looking vaguely like Revan for hype value and nothing else.

Microgravity it's insignificant. For all intent and purpose, things in orbit are not affected by gravitational acceleration

>>82325078

The ship isn't super strong, it's just it has a long moment arm so it can make the star destroyer spin, effectively making him drop because of the change in center of mass

It's the same reason picking a heavy object can break your spine but picking it correctly won't
>>
>>82342531
>>82342573

It's called free fall.

"An object in the technical sense of the term "free fall" may not necessarily be falling down in the usual sense of the term. An object moving upwards would not normally be considered to be falling, but if it is subject to the force of gravity only, it is said to be in free fall. The moon is thus in free fall."
>>
>>82325018

>>
>>82342573
>>82342738

g is the gravitational acceleration. When you're in orbit that's zero, as in, you're not accelerating toward the object whose gravity is acting upon you.
>>
>>82325018
