1. People had had enough Twin Peaks whatever the quality after the massive amount of weak season 2 episodes.

Wild at Heart, which is probably one of the two Lynch movies QT liked, seeing as True Romance is plagiarised from it, was so aggressively crass and out-of-character that Lynch both lost his core supporters and needed something equally vulgar to sustain *that* audience. On one hand you have quaint little people living their quaint little lives but at some point sokething terrie happens and it becomes clear that that quaintness isn't quite all that there is to it. That these people have secrets, some of them very dark.

Going back to the show and its innocent soap opera format is kind of jarring after having seen FWWM. All the teen romance, soft kisses and and only implied sex / drug consumption feels lame and out of place after seeing the real deal in the movie. The FWWM OST is much much darker and heavier, adding to the hopeless atmosphere of Laura's final days.

I really hope they keep this in the new episodes and don't go back to the teen-rated style of Season 1 and 2.
