This was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm surprised a show like this was even made during this day and age. Discuss?

I liked how the main charachter, Clay, a total cuck, got what was coming to him. He was such a pussy and then Hannah blamed him for killing herself because he was such a little pussy ass bitch the whole time.

>>82289806
Does it matter if he is dead or not? He tried to kill himself, with a gun, to the head. Even if he lives that is irrelevant.

Does it matter where Clay and Tony went? No. Probably to just chill out somewhere and get away from it all.

Yes the bakers most likely won. The tapes and with the counselor will seal the deal.

Don't know where he went. Probably to go be a broken fuck somewhere else, or crash with someone else. His family is fucked, and this sent him over the edge. Probably one of the better questions.

Bryce might go to jail. Lets see what his rich parents can do? I give it a 50/50. There is only the tape, and no physical evidence or living witness.

Forgot what Sheri did. Crash a car and kill someone?

Tyler will definitely go on a school shooting.
>>
>>82289353
>I haven't seen a single person take it seriously anywhere else on the internet.
>implying it's being taken seriously here

Here's the deal, brah. Netflix has a lot of garbage but a lot of people here are not cutting the cord because there's something that keeps them coming back. For me it's the ability to watch a lot of Star Trek. To each his own, whatever. But when netflix hypes up its orignal series shit so much, people want to have a look at what it is. This series is good fodder for mockery just like the b-movies that MST3K watches. What you have here is a movie that teenage girls and maybe young women watch and take seriously and young men watch with scorn. But the chicks are decent looking and watching them get sexually traumatized is fun, so everyone's happy. It's like if American Pie took itself too seriously.

I don't see a lot of shilling, but the reactions (at least with my normie friends) were really poor. I undertand all the criticism regarding pace, her reasons, sjw pandering and what not, but IMO it's a really solid mystery. Following the tapes left by a dead person was a cool concept.

The show felt like some of those "walking simulators" games, which is something I enjoy but it's a niche genre.

It's ok, but extremely frustrating, given that it had potential to be much better than it is. Despite the good production and decent acting, the dialogue and plotting were both often cringe worthy, young adult, overly dramatic, and simply dumb ideas.

Oh I think I'm going to kill myself, but first I'm going to sit down and record 13 hours of tapes in which I'm snarky, witty, and omniscient, without ever displaying emotions. I'm also going to distribute it in an aesthetically cutesy way with trendy retro cassettes that I decorate with flowers.

Oh hey, I'm Tony, I'm also omniscient. I know where everybody is at all times, and I can teleport into the scene every time it's convenient to the plot.

Every character is a model, nobody behaves like a real person, and it's preachy while at the same time trivializing everything it preaches about. Super annoying watch, which is a shame because it has a lot going for it, production wise.

Clay did a bunch of things wrong. Read her anonymous poem to her and then commented to it that he's not sure if he'd like to hang out with whoever wrote this.

Then when they got to the action, he got her consent, she suddenly flipped out but he didn't stay and insist her to tell what the hell happened. Even Jeff tried to stop Clay from leaving by saying let her cool down for a minute and then go back.

Clay was a passive beta orbiter who couldn't take the numerous hints she gave to him prior to the party.

I don't get why they go out their way to show that Asian Chad didn't threw Hannah's letter, like she said he did in the tapes.

It was to put the idea in the viewer that Hannah might be lying (at least in some aspects)? Why don't they touch that subject again? What was the point of it?
>>
>>82306410
Well the tapes tell Hannah's truth, from her viewpoint. Maybe she thought he threw it away? I'm not really certain from whose viewpoint the flashbacks are. Clay's?
>>
>>82305080
>2. Normalises suicide
yeah that honestly seems to be the case. she got to be a celebrity after she killed herself and get some 'revenge' on the people who wronged her.
>>
>>82306410
It's possible that he threw away a different letter he found in there. Either someone else's compliment or rude comment, etc.
I don't feel like rewatching to make sure if it was actually shown but I'm pretty sure that Hannah didn't pick it up either.
He may have even come back for it.
Or he could've forged it in the hopes that Clay would think she's spouting lies so that they could move on with their plan to keep him from spilling about the tapes.

i just watched the entire 13 hour show in 14 hours or something wtf it brings back so many memories from high school i'm figuratively literally shaking

i remember being so alone and the only friends i had as a sophomore was /b/ circa 2010 where i would go to feels threads and cry. i thought about suicide every day i actually even thought about something like the tapes to make people remember me because i was invisible to them. if my parents had had a gun i wouldn't be posting here

I feel you. I was bullied from basically 12 years old to 18, if not daily then at the very least on a weekly basis. After a few years I became completely numb to the bullying, I just accepted it and went on with my life. What's funny is that now I'm 21 and I'm actually all around positive person even though I was tormented in the most vulnerable age. I put it all behind me and I find comfort in not having to ever go back to that school and see those "people".
>>
>>82307550
>>82307772
Man, I'm really sorry you had to go through that shit and want to apologize about all the pointless suffering that took so many years from your childhood and teen years that were supposed to be the most carefree time of one's life. All because of idiots like me who thought their shit "friends" would stick around if they amuse them by bringing somebody weaker down.
The absolute worst and most ironic part is that one of those boys I bullied ended up becoming my only real friend to this day (I'm still waiting to get revenge killed in my sleep). Thankfully I got my head screwed on right, but still it doesn't justify anything or make shit right... I'm sorry and I wish there was a way actually do something to prevent bullying.
>>
>>82308379
Thanks. Telling the teachers or parents didn't do jack shit to prevent bullying, and no kid wants to be put on a spotlight like that, myself included. What boggles my mind is that some of them thought it was "funny" or that they were just joking around, completely oblivious that it hurts. I don't get how people are so blind at reading other people. Like I sais, it's in the past now and I won't have to see those people ever again. Despite all of this I try to be as nice and generous to everybody I interact with, I see no point in hurting other people for "your own amusement"

That's the absolute fucking worse, that you can't even rely on an adult in this situation. Parents tend to overreact or make shit worse and teachers don't want to get involved because they believe they're underpaid or it'd be too much trouble.
And kids can be so disproportionately cruel. I'll never forget the fucking sick cackling when we threw a kids entire backpack content including mp4 player (that was probably the only lifeline they had to get through the day in that hellhole) in the toilet for no reason at all, the guy was just sitting on the floor alone, waiting for class to start.
We watched some documentary on Nazis and concentration camps a couple days later and that's what it reminded me of so much it made me sick to my stomach and I stopped forever after that and went into full defense mode, which still doesn't make up for it.
ALSO the fucking idiots who claim that bullies are just as toooortured/are just trying to vent their own pain are apologists and enforcers. All those idiots alongside me came from more or less rich/well off families, had both parents, some had siblings, some didn't, definitely had no such excuse to back our behavior.

Your behavior and disposition are commendable though, possible an exception. Goes to show who's got the stronger and better character in the end.
Sorry about the rant. It's too late to change anything in the past but still it can help to set things straight sometimes.

>Sorry about the rant.

Oh it's quite alright, feels good to vent out every now and then. I don't talk about these things with my family, so what better way to do it than anonymously on the internet.

What pissed me off internally even more was the girls in my school who had cutting marks on their arms and very openly wallow "boohoo my life is so hard :(((" and then there's me who just takes shit on a regular basis and then I just bury it. I don't talk to anybody about it, I don't cut myself, occasionally I cried home when nobody saw but that's it. And each day I went in hoping maybe today will be better, it rarely was. Nobody ever apologized to me, but I don't hold grudges. At least after high-school you see who was your friend and who was your "friend", seeing how they stopped contacting me once everybody spread out to different schools and jobs and whatnot.

Those who truly suffer usually don't openly show it.
The girls who scratched their arms did probably use that self harm as a sort of valve to release pressure, to express themselves or to be recognized, no doubt. Teenage shit gets bad enough on the inside without the added bullying or harm from others. So I wouldn't discredit their perception of how bad they had it.

It definitely stands on a separate level to what you've been put through and how you had to grit your teeth to push through and make it out to the other side.
As great as it is that you're looking on the bright side now that you're free of school hell, talking (out loud that is) about the shit you left behind might help further though, especially considering you're only 21. This is an alright substitute, but a hostile environment as is.
I wouldn't be surprised we both continue going on this shit site as some kind of punishment and to keep ourselves down and our expectations of life and people as low as possible to avoid further disappointment.

>I wouldn't be surprised we both continue going on this shit site as some kind of punishment and to keep ourselves down and our expectations of life and people as low as possible to avoid further disappointment.

Yup, this sounds about accurate. I don't really expect anything out of people anymore, humans are cruel and that's that. I do have actual friends now that I'm an adult though, so thankfully I'm not alone. I don't think talking about my past out loud will help anything, it doesn't haunt me anymore and I think remembering too much into it may only harm me by opening old wounds.

I want to thank you anon, this brief conversation we had helped me feel better. I honestly didn't expect to have this conversation on /tv/ of all places but here we are. I hope all the best for you, as cliche as that might sound.

Well true, If you have successfully processed and managed to quarantine that whole shitshow, then you're probably right and going back into that headspace might not be of any benefit now.

I gotta give it to you, you've given me hope as well. Doesn't alleviate the guilt, but at least I know a few make it out well enough adjusted.
If nothing else those assholes didn't manage to ruin your entire life, so that's a victory you have over them.
Now I know wishing you that someday, someone manages to restore your view of humanity as whole may be unrealistic, but here's to hope, 100% cheesiness included.

Hi
>>
>>82312166
Well there are many individual things that lead to other things and they pile on but two of the biggest reasons are witnessing a rape and getting raped.
>>
Okay, I'm gonna try my best to lay it all out for us.
SPOILERS INBOUND
INCOMING WALL OF TEXT

1. Before she was raped, she said she was giving life "one last shot." Being raped certainly crushed whatever spirit she had left.

>Why didn't she run away from Bryce?
Bryce is a beefy-ass jock, her fate was sealed the second she was alone, she could've tried to GTFO, but Bryce, being faster and stronger, would've got her and probably made it even worse.

2. We gotta look at it through her eyes. We, the audience, could see everything and what everyone was doing, but from Hannah's POV, she saw the hard outside of people, meanwhile we got to see their motivations/weaknesses. You think Hannah knew Justin had an awful homelife?

3. Things pile up. You could consider this show a perfect example of the straw that broke the camels back. Any one of those reasons alone wouldn't have hailed such drastic action (minus a couple) but all of that shit on top of the boulder that is getting raped was simply too much to bear.
>But what about Zach, that reason was stupid
Agreed, but at this point she was just looking for something to grasp onto. Consider it a lot like drowning, but your temple is still out of the water. You're so close, and you need the smallest boost, but something happens and you get pulled the rest of the way into the water.

4. Forgive her stupidity. One of the main arguments against the show was how she got herself into some of those situations. But again, we need to look at it from her angle. Clay is probably her only friend/work buddy. Her other friends have either embarrassed her or fucked her over. She watched one of them get raped (save for later) and lost her family nearly a grand by mistake. At this point she is probably desperate for some friendly company. So much so she is willing to put herself in the path of danger to have someone who isn't out to get her, and as we see, this goes terribly wrong.

Will cont
>>
>>82309396
The sound effects especially are pretty haunting. No music or anything, kino as fuck.
>>
>>82312738

continued:

5. She didn't help her friend, fuck her
She was locked in a room with a rapist twice her size/strength, in a house full of wasted teenagers. Those odds don't look to good. Had she screamed, Bryce probably would've done something drastic, not only rape her as well, but silence her so she wouldn't snitch. Not to mention the door was locked, so by the off chance someone did hear her over the chatter and music, they couldn't have gotten in.

That's basically all I've got, just wanted to lay out what I think about some of the gripes of the show.

I loved this show. It touched me deeply, really reminded me of some stuff which happened to me as well. I went as far as to watch it twice in a row. This show made me want to be Hannah's friend and keep her safe and happy. I also felt really bad about Alex, Justin and Tyler, despite Justin being an ass and Tyler a bit of a creep. I felt bad for what happened to Jessica, but she annoyed me as a character. Courtney, Marcus and Bryce can all go fuck themselves.

If there's a season 2 I hope it focuses on Alex (another suicide/suicide attempt) or Tyler (school shooting).

Alex is so cute.

Don't forget Zach. Deep down he was a decent person, he just hanged out with the wrong people and her mother expected too much from him.
>>
>>82314119
True, he seemed sweet. Imagine if Hannah had listened to Kat and gone for him instead of Justin. Maybe things would've gone differently, better.
>>
>>82314191
Yeah. The show impacted me like no other show has in a while. It's a bit bizarre actually, maybe because I can relate to it on so many occasions and it makes me realize how easy it is to be all wise from an outside perspective "oh he/she should've done that and that" when in reality often things just happen and only afterwards the what ifs start pouring.
>>
>>82314317

The biggest impact it had on me was changing my view of rape.

I always had the "don't be a slut, don't get raped" mentality, but I think this show has changed something in me.
>>
>>82314382
What do you think of rape now?
>>
>>82314382
Same here.

I just don't like the bittersweet ending. Well the whole show is bittersweet to be honest. You learn from episode 1 that Hannah is dead and every moment where things go well for her or her and clay start warming up and she's happy, you always have the knowledge in the back of your head in every episode that oh yeah, she commited suicide and she won't get a happy ending no matter what.
