"Dogshit" is an exaggeration, but it really does have a subpar script. I used to watch this like every weekend as a kid, and I just recently rewatched it with my niece and I was surprised by how disconnected the story was. The special effects are still great but Atreyu is a pretty bland protagonist and there's no real tension until the last 20 minutes.

The Oracle scene is still awesome though.

I straight-up used to hide under a blanket when Atreyu approaches the dead knight and his visor flips up to reveal his destroyed face. The music for that brief sequence is so fucking creepy.
