Will he direct again? If I was trying to get back on the wagon I'd make a low budget horror film. Most horror movies are so generic it wouldn't be hard to make something special especially when you're famous.

1 so-so movie doesn't make him bad. Everyone has a few misses. He would do well to quit casting himself though.

If he is gonna keep doing that, then pick things where the supporting cast will get more screentime. He's OK as an actor and it would be better for everybody if he kept himself behind the camera for the most part.
