Honestly I love it because I'm spiteful. It makes me angry that some people get to live with emotional safety nets like religion, stupidity and ignorance, and I want them to be miserable.
>>
>>82184993
>It doesn't adhere to the wholly unrealistic conventions of learn-a-lesson sitcoms which I've been conditioned to love like Linus clutching a comfort blanket so that means it's bad!

Wow, really got my noggin throbbin'. The guy's main complaint is that the show tells the viewers that life is meaningless and he wonders why it's popular while completely missing the fact that that's part of the reason it's so popular. This generation has been spoon fed a diet of sitcoms that promise that all conflicts are eventually wrapped up with a digestible lesson that we can walk away from as better people and that's just not true. That's the big lie we're all sick of. It's not absurdist to point that out; it's realist.
>>
>>82184993
That headline is a bit obnoxious but the article is good.

Your 2005 talking point is a little outdated. We have seen nothing but subversion of nuclear family dynamics and expected outcomes.
>>
>>82185887
Literally a /pol/ tard talking point with no basis in reality. Kill yourself moron.

I honestly believe you are the same person that goes in every single fucking thread and starts shouting /pol/ at people with absolutely no basis or connection to the conversation. In the last 10 years the majority of television shows have been all about subverting the expected sitcom family shows and now that's tired and old just like the archetypal sitcomes of the 1990s. How is that /pol/? I swear to fuck I hope you have a miserable life.

it does for being accessible and occasionally funny. i dont like it that much, but i see why it does well. and i dont see how a depressing show shouldnt be popular

Wait, there are people who find the shoehorned sad scenes depressing instead of stupid?

It depends. If you aren't an atheist and actually have a coherent worldview where life has meaning, you will see it as stupid. If you are an atheist who spends his time trying to forget how hollow / meaningless his worldview is, you'll find it depressing to be reminded.
>>
Its good show but have to agree with it being shallow. You pretty much forget everything after you had your laughs, and the jokes work only once, so no re-watch value. Its comedy of the youtube age. Being popular means nothing these days, and you dont need to do or be anything to deserve it.

>>
It's a very fair write up.

I enjoy Reddit and Memey, I think the action sequences are very well animated and almost every episode has a well earned joke. But it fails when it tries to pull a Simpsons or Futurama and tug at your heartstrings.

Rick is a giant insane asshole who will always pull out a Trump card at the last minute of the episode, he's incapable of learning a lesson. Morty was once a good protagonist but now has pretty much turned into the Meg Griffin of the show always destined to get crapped on.

Only character who's even mildly relatable is Summer at this point. Only a matter of time before she becomes a bitch because "LOL everyone is either a terrible person or autistic in the mind of Dan Harmon."

>>82184993
This was a good analysis that didn't boil down to 'le plebbit'
>>
>>82186423
"Deserve" falls under the cardinal virtue of Justice, which is giving others what they are due. What they are due is a matter of reason and the natural law.

Again, this is all man-made abstract Mumbo jumbo that has no bearing on reality unless people decide to act upon it. It's no different than someone suicide bombing because they think they will get 72 virgins. Your virtues are cute and all but they are ideas created by people and have nothing to do with nature or reality
>>
>>82186655
Everything should be as good as possible. Fucks like you are the reason why we are getting half assed movies, shows, games, cartoons, whatever. Because your low standards allow for those atrocities to be made.

This is because you think that the first causes in nature are material, whereas in reality: mind precedes matter, and mind moves all things towards their purpose / end. The Supreme Intellect that is the beginning and end of all things.

Pls read Plato / Aristotle and stop thinking your eliminative materialism is profound because it is actually very stupid and destructive (to yourself and society).

>We have seen nothing but subversion of nuclear family dynamics and expected outcomes.

Yeah, now that the people who were spoonfed a diet of overly-optimistic sitcoms are the ones writing the TV shows, because they want to subvert the things they came to expect from the things they had growing up. When people say "this generation" they're talking about the people in their 20s and 30s who are now starting to take the role of entertainment creators. People who grew up in the 80s and 90s (hell, even the early 00's kept doing the "positive family sitcom" thing for a while). He's not talking about 15 year olds who have been raised on the most recent media.

I don't think it's profound, it's just reality. Stop projecting.
>it is actually very stupid and destructive (to yourself and society).
I guess reality is stupid. This way of thinking is only destructive if you allow it to be. You seem like you're desperate to find meaning/purpose because you're incredibly weak and scared of degeneracy.

Increasing knowledge of what is secondary still remains knowledge of what is secondary. Material science has advanced over the last few centuries, but matter is still secondary to mind.

>Source?

"Since there were three kinds of substance, two of them physical and one unmovable, regarding the latter we must assert that it is necessary that there should be an eternal unmovable substance.

...

It is clear then from what has been said that there is a substance which is eternal and unmovable and separate from sensible things. It has been shown also that this substance cannot have any magnitude, but is without parts and indivisible (for it produces movement through infinite time, but nothing finite has infinite power; and, while every magnitude is either infinite or finite, it cannot, for the above reason, have finite magnitude, and it cannot have infinite magnitude because there is no infinite magnitude at all). But it has also been shown that it is impassive and unalterable; for all the other changes are posterior to change of place.

It's not depressing, it's just post-modern. With a ton of popular culture thrown in to make it accessible. I have to say that it's certainly ironic how they try to throw in some sort of moral lessons into it all, when clearly that's not part of the doctrine. I guess it makes it easier to digest though, and on second thought it might make sense if the moral lessons are actually meant to mean absolutely nothing.

I don't like what I've seen of the show, but this isn't why. I mean I agree that it's incredibly repetitive and there are no stakes narratively, but I don't see why the pessimism is inherently bad or why this article needed a stupid clickbait title. I also don't see how those problems are particularly unique to Rick and Morty as far as these kinds of cartoons go.

It sounds like something the kind of person who worships Disney production line movies for making them feel good about themselves would say.

As for its popularity, I don't know if anything "deserves" to be popular. But I do know there are a lot of people like Dan Harmon - mildly depressed atheists who manage to both hate themselves and think they're better than everyone.

But that's not the problem, the guy is disliking it for the most stupid of reasons.

If you dislike something popular with good, well-explained reasons, you can usually get even people who disagree with you to understand where you're coming from.
>>
I was surprised to see some people here apparently really disliking this show.

Then I remembered that it takes a piss on religion every now and then, and that this place is full of /pol/tards.

Get fucked, christcucks. Rind and Morty is fun, probably the most fun I've had binge-watching a show in recent memory. And the people calling it shallow either don't understand it or expect a full-length lecture on every new concept introduced on a cartoon comedy.

it's a cartoon comedy, it doesn't need ongoing arcs. look at the simpsons or south park or probably just most adult cartoons that exist
>While the inconsistent story, distracting do-overs, and meaningless choices are internally consistent with characters that find themselves in a chaotic universe and react accordingly, they do not appeal to a viewer who desires meaningful choices and significant character development
why do you want those things from a comedy? they seem like they would just weigh the show down
>>
>>82185727
you are fucking deluded into talking like a south park character. its not depressing because its nihilistic and pessimistic, its depressing because it is a glut of humor and storytelling. its a sign of the times that such a shitty show with such shitty post-ironic 'humor' is given so much attention. white guys are that fucking stupid these days.
