Probably a luxury of coming out before commercialism was in full swing, but a lot of people have treated his work with great reverence. Cold is a relative term, but you obviously don't live in an area with no snowy winters so let me educate you.

Modern refrigerators tend to keep food at around 4°C (depending on the user's preference, but deviate too far from that and your milk will either be frozen or go rancid).
