I watched the 15 minute preview for Alien Day. It most certainly is not going to be kino. The movie is Ridley attempting to make up for the backlash of Prometheus by "going back to the original" while understanding none of what made it work.

It's 1979 Alien remade for the hyperactive horror genre fans of 2017. None of the pacing and cinematography that made the first movie art.

After a long panning over a quiet ship the crew is awoken. All gathered around the table eating it begins to establish roles and relationships, Dallas as captain, the us and them dynamic of Brett/Parker and the rest of the crew as well as their comedic nature arises naturally through dialogue and actions. It's nice and slow, a normal humanizing scene.

Immediately after the facehugger you're shown nothing. It cuts back to the shuttle and you see them coming back from Ripley and Ash's perspective. All Dallas and Lambert will tell them is something happened to Kaine with an organism and Ripley doesn't want to let them in. You then are treated to an extended period of time where they have no idea what to do. Burster is attached around 40 minutes in. 20 minutes later is when it comes off and they lose it and another 10 before they're at the dinner table with Kaine again. The dinner is important because it's once again setting that safe and calm tone up where we established our characters and got to play around.

Everything seems happy again which is why Kaine's sudden convulsions and finally the chestburster are so shocking. And there's no overplayed reaction either. Lambert screams as she's covered in blood and everyone just stares in defensive shock. Not sure what to make of this THING that just came out of Kaine. You see the initial birth and then it immediately takes off leaving the crew dumbfounded and scared.

The woman in command of the shuttle is getting hysterical now as well.
They get him into medical bay and blood spurts out of his spine all over the one who seems to be in command and she starts running back and forth around the ship falling into things screaming and crying. She locks the girl in with the guy who was infected and he starts convulsing and his back just explodes open as a CG monkey alien pops out and starts prowling around the medbay, White girl is still screaming hysterically for the other team to come back and the ethnic girl starts screaming some more and slips and falls in blood as the alien attacks her. White girl falls her way down the hallways crying to find a gun comes back SLIPS IN BLOOD AGAIN and hysterically tries to crawl away and then closes her leg in the door. Limps away as the monkey alien starts smashing its head into the glass and chases her down. Hysterically shooting everywhere. Blows up the shuttle.

Then not a minute later the second team has their own burster scene with another CGI monkey alien coming out of a guys mouth and running through the fields.

If they deemed Earth enough of a failure (and possibly a threat) that they decided to eradicate it then they would most definitely attempt to follow through because the consequences of not doing that is just as we have seen in this particular trailer.

A new human race gaining the capability to not only achieve interstelllar travel AND to create advanced AIs is dangerous enough that one individual can commandeer their own bomber and fuck them up royally.

This is why "we'll skip a couple of planets, no big deal" doesn't really work within this story they're trying to tell.
