I think it's very much a Verhoeven movie (even as it's a quasi Hitchcock-DePalma movie) and doing a lot of what he's doing with Robocop and Starship Troopers.

I mean it's not bad, it's just one of those forgettable Hitchcock films but with a lot of erotica added. Nothing more, nothing less. I wasn't interested in the plot, there wasn't any particularly effectful scenes or anything I will remember, the ending was weak and nonsensical...it just has no bite and nothing I will remember it by. (except for a blond chick flashing her cunny to a sweaty Newman). When the movie was over, the only thing you think is "well, ok. that's that."

compare this to RoboCop with a great soundtrack, tons of great scenes you won't forget, dark humor, amazing practical effects, etc etc...

And yet I think it's an underrated film. I still can't believe it wasn't nominated for a screenplay. Even I don't believe it was a perfect 10/10 film. I think it's only mistake was the camera panning down to reveal an ice pick under the bed. Really that is it.
