Why people hate this movie?
I've postponed watching it for years because of how negative it is viewed by everyone but it was a pretty good SF movie.
>"Hey this Jodo guy is totally mangling the movie, we've gotta get it in the hands of a director with a more clear vision."
>"Get me David Lynch"
I've always wondered what this thought process was.
It's the pinnacle of pleb filter kino
Because it's just a dumb retelling of the book events with all the subtleties thrown out and replaced with Lynch's random artistic bs

I don't think so. The movie is really different from the Lynch's filmography. It's mostly straightforward (albeit really speed up) story.
I blame De Laurentises, Lynch gave his all.
I trust based Villeneuve to deliver

Before Dune he had only directed Eraserhead and The Elephant Man.

Should I read the book first?
Hardcore fans of the book are socially malfunctional aspie nerds who don't like change. The movie comes out and they "stim" angrily by flapping their hands and screaming at an unfollowable pace.

Only Ville-whatever can capture the true bizarre otherworldly darkness of 80s sci fi classics like Blade Runner and Dune

...but he should be making his original stuff. Arrival, Enemy or Incendies will probably better than whatever comes out of this Blade Runner 2049 or Dune projects.
the 2000 tv series is better
