Look at the drop from Casino Royale to Quantum of Solace -- this how bad this is going to be!

Daniel Craig said he had to write his own scenes because LEGALLY no one else on set could write due to the strike and their unions

You thought Hollywood was bad now!

Hopefully it will mean Hollywood is forced to hire actually competent writers instead of family members and friends of the executives.

I can't remember the last time I thought a TV show or mainstream movie was well-written. Seems like you could write the entire screen play with a fucking program now.
>>
>>82011134
Maybe Late Night (((Comedy))) will be funny.
>>
>>82012144
write a better way that scene could've been handled bearing in mind you have to have a scene showing that as mandated by your bosses
>>
>>82011636
The thing is you'll basically never work again after the strike is over though right?

Would they hire overseas writers, who come in and Skab Skab Skab, then just go home when it's over with a fancy resume and no worries about the wrath of the Union.
>>
>>82012187
Didn't happen in the last strike, why would it happen now?
>>
>>82011582
the way tv and movies pays writers has changed since the last strike. Mostly it involves syndication payments as shows don't really syndicate anymore, which is costing them money. Also tv writers are not making as much anymore cause a lot of tv are just 10 episode mini seasons. and some other junk
>>
>>82012238
One can always hope. Maybe the building all the fuckers are staying in burns down.
>>

Have a scene at the end of the movie with Batman talking about how now that Superman is gone, others will need to step up to protect the world from a looming threat as clips of the different heroes play on security cameras. Then it zooms out showing Batman watching all of them on a bunch of screens in his cave with a stinger about how he needs to bring them together. THEN ROLL CREDITS. WAS THAT SO HARD? WHY DID LEX DESIGN ALL THEIR LOGOS, AND WHY ARE THEY ALL USING THE LOGOS THAT LEX DESIGNED FOR THEM IN SECRET?

This won't harm shows like TWD and GOT. Networks care too much about these shows making them money. They'll hire on new writers for a season then bring back the ones on strike when that's over. The showrunners aren't on strike.

Conan was forced to write most of the show himself and used a bunch of gimmicks, which is what makes him so great. Watching a man spin his wedding ring has never been so entertaining.

>>82013474
Depending on contract agreements they might not be allowed to. Also I'd say hiring amature writers would do more harm to the show than just having a year off or whatever.

Of course they'd lose money, but as a fan it would be better than having a massive quality drop.

It's a good thing when workers decide to fight for better wages, the gap is increasing between rich and middle class at an alarming rate.

However, giving the quality of the writing, they can easily be replaced by fresh college dropouts and viewers won't notice a differece.

I'm pretty sure the leagues themselves will start their own streaming platform like MLB and WWE with integrated stats and scores before begging to streaming services. The NHL has a streaming service (NHL gamecenter live) with on the fly stats and scores, but they're partnered with Rogers.
>>
reminder that the writer unions directly impact newer writers from getting jobs because most shows/movies don't want to give them a chance in case they fuck up, which is reasonable, but during times like this which would be the perfect opportunity for new talent to try out they'll get blacklisted as soon as the strike ends.

Empirically fucking false. Capital investment did that.
Working hours were decreasing in western nations LONG BEFORE the government got involved.

So?
It's their fault for being violent unionists.

AHHAHAHAHA
Unions did jack shit.

Working hours are a function of what the worker wants. If people make enough money(or prices are low enough) to justify working less hours, they will find jobs with less hours. This happened for decades long before the government got involved.

you'd think they make hand over fist because its Hollywood and they're bleeding money, but for what's arguably one of the hardest gigs out there writers barely make enough to cover rent for their shitty LA suburb apartment

and yeah its a hard job. millions of people figured out how to be a doctor, you spend 7 years studying you can learn anything. Being a writer isn't like a craft or practice, you need talent and the ability to think creatively

Unions have been active since the mid 1800s at least. And the government was usually heavily on the side of the employer until the Great Depression (at least in he US), and then they started cracking down on them again in the 80s onward, which is why your New World stats have the working hours increase. I don't know that much about the situation in Europe other than the unions there are much stronger than in the US. Relearn your labour history

...thought every creative arts major in the world. Normally I'd believe you, but I've seen what the amateur film scene looks like. It's full of liberal cucks who keep blowing each other off on how avant garde their writing/directing/acting is. There's no humanity or realism - it's all about being 'unique' and 'standing out from the crowd', so they make pretentious garbage that no one is interested in and then get upset without question if their own ideas are to blame.

It's a tighter and better-steered ship.

1. You can't just hire scabs/strikebreakers.
2. Most writers are from the cities, and are liberal. And Trump gives off a lot of material to work with, makes Bush 2 look like a saint.

The creative low budget stuff is independent and outside of the studio system too.

Unionized writers are as worthless as Unionized janitors.

>it's the government not giving education more funding

Hasn't funding fucking ballooned in America over the last few decades with no increase in test scores (even a decline in most cases).

Because """""creative"""" fields are based on connections and nepotism and your abilities and qualifications aren't empirically measured. So he's a known "name" and thus just gets thrown work.

Look at any of the films he's involved in...ask yourself...does that require someone with actual talent or competence? They're literally indistinguishable in quality from lazy fan-fic or unpublished garbage authors on the internet.

Does this mean we'll start seeing Heroes season 2 levels of kino on tv again?

How is watching some youtube videos 'thematically consistent' with this greek tradgedy you're banging on about. How is it not sequel bait?

Basically;

>Not in WGA

>Studio won't hire you

>Break WGA rules and you can't be in the WGA

It's why Robert Rodriguez got fired from Barbarella and John Carter. He refused to co-operate with DGA rules for non union members, and thus the studio "couldn't" hire him.

Movie studios will eventually, like every other corporate entity, simply farm out work.

They did it already with VFX.

Remember the Life Of Pi/Oscars drama?

> a tease and the proper conclusion to the story

So the writers are so fucking garbage they can't even provide a 'proper conclusion' to their own story in one film, yet they deserve more money.

>Know how to write something

99.9% of product is so generic that it's quite simple to hire a "writer" the same way you'd hire a resume writer and just have someone shit a script out. If you want quips, farm out work to stand ups.

Hollywood is way behind the curve compared to other industries.

Maybe it was different in the 90's and back, but just look at what's the bread and butter of Hollywood now - Capeshit can literally be shat out in minutes by anyone with access to a few screenplay books and producers notes.

Does your mother/father/uncle/drug dealer have connections?

If not, then no, you aren't doing anything.

U.S. education funding is extremely high, and results are down.

The company that won the Oscar for Life Of Pi went bankrupt, because Hollywood basically told the VFX companies;

>Low quality CGI doesn't worry audiences
>We will simply farm your work out to cut rate Koreans unless you do work for free

They had protests at the Oscars, but VFX people aren't real people, so no one in Hollywood cared.

The VFX team went up on stage to accept their Oscar, and the minute they began to raise the issue they were played off. The rest of the crew when receiving their awards, notably the cinematographer (whose Oscar was entirely owed to the VFX crew) refused to acknowledge them.

Writers are next on this block as well as most other crew, as their rules become automated and easily replicated (especially cinematographers who see large parts of their job relegated to colorists and digital automation and VFX).

They are paid EXACTLY what they are worth in an economical sense. That's how a free market works and there is NOTHING you can say to negate this simple fact.

The problem is that faggots like them (and you) vastly overestimate how much they are worth. So when they are confronted by the fact that they are not special and easily replaceable, they throw a tantrum like the children they are, because it goes against everything they have been taught their entire life.

Real life isn't your liberal arts lalaland.
