The simple fact of the matter is though, that now there are so much more people going to pay for movies in some form or other than at any time before. And the broad mass of those people is just too broad so that any one person can appeal to all of them. Which is exactly where Hollywood's attitude must change.There's too many halfway wealthy people now. You can't appeal to all of them. You can't get all of their money. You need to specialise.

This goes for all media btw. Even minorities such as black people, "Asians", nerds, etc. have become too big so as not to try to appeal to them directly. You can't appeal to all. Appeal to the one group you want to appeal to.

It definitely related to the cost of making one single film went up. Let's say you have a film that cost a 100 mills in your hand, & worldwide marketing gives you the same impact of headache(笑´・艸・) That puts a film in need to perform at least 200 mills to break even. Then you can really start talking about how much profit you get out of a single product. Of course there are 2nd & 3rd usage for your consideration. But it is really the things of way down the end of the line of Money making. So at this point, a word "bankable" points at really the mega star who hold huge impact on the the marketing, anon !!!
