as far as I'm concerned, it's dead. New York went corporate, gambling is legal and sex went free market. I thought Killing them Softly showed this pretty well, low level guys stealing dogs and OD while mid level sits around and gambles. Everyone starved and the thing just died.

The Soprano family being pathetic is literally the most common theme in this show. you ever wonder why Tony's always saying things like "this would have never happened in the old days" or how he's always talking about the old school mobsters? he desperately wants to get the family back to that state but at every turn he ends up compromising, whether it be how the Ginny issue was solved or how Feetch was taken care of, they knew in this day and age they were as powerful as they used to be, and to uphold any sense of power they had left they'd need to compromise, even if it meant throwing the old rule book out the window.
