Chromosomes aren't the be-all-end-all of biological sex.

Basically, think of your chromosomes like the blueprints for a house.

They describe what it's SUPPOSED to be.
It's up to the builders, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and planners to make sure it actually happens that way, and sometimes, they make mistakes.

This is one of the dumbest things I've seen here tonight, thanks

You're suggesting that because expert opinion can change, expert opinion is no more valuable than your dumb fantasies

That's retarded

Furthermore, there was never a global consensus on the nature of the planet before, well, you know, modernity. There wasn't even a scientific community per se. Just independent scholars working more or less independently and sharing knowledge when the opportunities arose. Nothing at all like today
>>
>>81978957
You're confusing ultra religo-nuts with all conservatives. Many conservatives do not deny evolution. Many don't deny climate change either, they merely disagree with the claim that curbing CO2 emissions will do anything to stop it. But separating many conservatives from a small group of religious nutcases makes liberal's brains hurt and they get sad. Keep being a retard while you can, once you graduate college you may have to change a few things about your lax dude weed lmao lifestyle.

No, there are two sexes. Within the sexes, there are gender spectra. That's why a man can grow tits, develop a love of chocolate, and became a whiny bitch by taking estrogen-- but he can never grow a vagina, no matter how many chemicals he consumes. His sex is determined by his DNA. But his gender is determined by physiology.
>>

It's not "pop sci" to suggest that the cumulative conclusions of experts over a long period of time based on a growing body of evidence should be respected. It's "common sense."

You have no reason to doubt the scientific community beyond the fact that you don't like its conclusions, because they make you feel a certain way (i.e. your political "team" has position A, and they have position B, and this upsets you).

Reality isn't like a sports game, though. You or your progeny (god forbid) will face it one day.

Because gender is a collection of behaviors. Gender is not about whether or not you have a penis or a vagina. It's about whether or not you behave like a man or a woman.

Sex = sex organs. You're born with these. They never change.

Gender = physiology. This changes throughout your life.

>>

Climate change is an externality though. Free market is absolute shit at externalities since the margin of gain for individuals is minimal but costs are high, thus nearly always requiring large social planning.

Maybe there is an alternative to relying on the Feds for this planning, but I'm not aware of what that mechanism would be.

Okay, let's stop for a moment, and completely step away from the whole "Global warming" concept. Just set that to the side.

The backbone of the global economy, as currently constituted, is fossil fuel, right?
Fossil fuel is a finite resource. We can't get more when it's gone.
And we have no idea how much fuel is left in the earth. For all we know, we could see the bottom of the bucket tomorrow, right?

So, purely from an economic standpoint, regardless of whether or not global warming is real, wouldn't it STILL be a good idea to switch to renewable energy resources so the economy doesn't collapse and we don't get stuck in a Mad Max hellscape?

I can't personally provide you with evidence, because I'm not a scientist, and I'm also lazy, and I feel like I have better things to do.

Fortunately, there are a lot of working scientists out there who take care of these things for the rest of us. Sort of like how there are lawyers who handle legal issues, firefighters who suppress fires, and so on. It's really amazing. All these people go to school, get training, and then spend many years in long careers getting very good at these things. It makes it so that every human doesn't have to be a scientist, lawyer, firefighter, etc., all at once. That sure would be hard! And not very fun! Thankfully, we have this thing called "specialization" and "expertise." These are in turn defined by "qualifications."

Generally speaking, in life, it's a good idea not to ignore the expert advice and to deny the conclusions of people working in fields that you have neither any experience with nor education in. If you do, you're likely to be wrong and to make mistakes. At best, you'll just waste your time repeating a lot of ideas that have already been debunked or have already been discarded.

Would you want somebody to come up to you and to tell you how to be a faggot? I doubt it. You've spent a lot of time and energy learning how to be a faggot. You know how to suck a dick, and you do it really well. Lots of people have sucked a dick or two, but you've sucked thousands. You suck them every day. Sometimes, when you fall asleep at night, you think about sucking dicks. It's just part of being a professional faggot who takes his vocation seriously.

Now consider how you feel about being a faggot, and apply that to climatologists. They know climate science just as well as you know sucking dicks. Don't you think you should trust them? I'd trust you to suck my dick to high heaven. It's just professional courtesy.

It’s Water Vapor, Not the CO2
ACS Climate Science Toolkit | Narratives
Remark: “The Earth has certainly been warming since we have added so much CO2 to the atmosphere from fossil fuel burning.”
Reply: “Forget the CO2. Water vapor is the most important greenhouse gas. It controls the Earth’s temperature.”

It’s true that water vapor is the largest contributor to the Earth’s greenhouse effect. On average, it probably accounts for about 60% of the warming effect. However, water vapor does not control the Earth’s temperature, but is instead controlled by the temperature. This is because the temperature of the surrounding atmosphere limits the maximum amount of water vapor the atmosphere can contain. If a volume of air contains its maximum amount of water vapor and the temperature is decreased, some of the water vapor will condense to form liquid water. This is why clouds form as warm air containing water vapor rises and cools at higher altitudes where the water condenses to the tiny droplets that make up clouds.

>we have no idea how much oil the earth has

>>
>>81981530
https://ams.confex.com/ams/pdfpapers/100737.pdf
>>
The greenhouse effect that has maintained the Earth’s temperature at a level warm enough for human civilization to develop over the past several millennia is controlled by non-condensable gases, mainly carbon dioxide, CO2, with smaller contributions from methane, CH4, nitrous oxide, N2O, and ozone, O3. Since the middle of the 20th century, small amounts of man-made gases, mostly chlorine- and fluorine-containing solvents and refrigerants, have been added to the mix. Because these gases are not condensable at atmospheric temperatures and pressures, the atmosphere can pack in much more of these gases . Thus, CO2 (as well as CH4, N2O, and O3) has been building up in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution when we began burning large amounts of fossil fuel.

If there had been no increase in the amounts of non-condensable greenhouse gases, the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere would not have changed with all other variables remaining the same. The addition of the non-condensable gases causes the temperature to increase and this leads to an increase in water vapor that further increases the temperature. This is an example of a positive feedback effect. The warming due to increasing non-condensable gases causes more water vapor to enter the atmosphere, which adds to the effect of the non-condensables.

Climate change is exploited by governments and giant corporations far too much, probably more than any science. This alone should get you to question it greatly. Bill Nye is clearly nothing more than a partisan hack who has been exposed many times. The very idea of taking him as a voice of authority in science is laughable. The scary thing is all these trendy agreeable idiots that start mocking people as soon as they question this "science", even though tens of thousands of scientist disagree that global warming is caused by co2 emissions.
>>
>>81981673
meant for
>>81981571
>>
There is also a possibility that adding more water vapor to the atmosphere could produce a negative feedback effect. This could happen if more water vapor leads to more cloud formation. Clouds reflect sunlight and reduce the amount of energy that reaches the Earth’s surface to warm it. If the amount of solar warming decreases, then the temperature of the Earth would decrease. In that case, the effect of adding more water vapor would be cooling rather than warming. But cloud cover does mean more condensed water in the atmosphere, making for a stronger greenhouse effect than non-condensed water vapor alone – it is warmer on a cloudy winter day than on a clear one. Thus the possible positive and negative feedbacks associated with increased water vapor and cloud formation can cancel one another out and complicate matters. The actual balance between them is an active area of climate science research.

The polls were correct, though. Trump and Clinton got more or less the percentage of the vote that the polls indicated that they would get-- nationally.

It was the NYT, HuffPo, et al. that created dumb models that gave Clinton a 99% chance of winning.

More serious statisticians like Nate Silver gave him as much as a 1/3 chance, which I think is accurate-- he even floated the idea of an EC win as one of the ways that Trump would likely win if he did. It was an upset, not a shoo-in.

>While evidence suggests fluctuations in solar activity can affect climate on Earth, and that it has done so in the past, the majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists agree that the sun is not to blame for the current and historically sudden uptick in global temperatures on Earth, which seems to be mostly a mess created by our own species.
>“The small measured changes in solar output and variations from one decade to the next are only on the order of a fraction of a percent, and if you do the calculations not even large enough to really provide a detectable signal in the surface temperature record,” said Penn State meteorologist Michael Mann.

There are natural influences but there is proof that humans are contributing. The climate has always changed but no natural event would cause such a rapid change unless it was something catastrophic (e.g. meteor).

you're just saying that if the baby is conceived at 12am on january 1st then at 12am on june 17th the baby magically transforms from a cluster of cells into a human, which is complete bullshit
from the moment of conception a human starts developing, not a cluster of cells which magically becomes human

>Habibullo Abdussamatov, the head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, recently linked the attenuation of ice caps on Mars to fluctuations in the sun's output. Abdussamatov also blamed solar fluctuations for Earth’s current global warming trend. His initial comments were published online by National Geographic News.

>“Man-made greenhouse warming has [made a] small contribution [to] the warming on Earth in recent years, but [it] cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance,” Abdussamatov told LiveScience in an email interview last week. “The considerable heating and cooling on the Earth and on Mars always will be practically parallel."

If you want to convince people you aren't running a scam, articulate your arguments and present data without vomiting research papers that you haven't read or can even

Sharpen your arguments to make them work on a layman's level or you're going to continue losing. You cannot hide behind document dumps, especially in this environment.

1. Green house gases, in particular CO2, decrease the amount of infared radiation that can escape from the troposphere.

2. This in turn warms the atmosphere below, which allows for more water vapor in the air.

3. This increased water vapor reflects/absorbs even more infrared, accelerating the process.

4. My personal addition is fuck only looking at reducing emissions. The damage is already up there, and India is going to buy cars. Figure out how to get the CO2 back down and out.

I posted a link where you can download all the instrumental data and plot it yourself in a nice x/y plot.
The science is the pretty straight forward. The Earth has been warming since the end of the last ice age in the Holocene. Humans have introduced an excess amount of CO2 into the atmosphere thus accelerating the warming trend. You can see this in the instrumental data.
But keep calling me a shill if it makes you feel better. I'm an actual scientist in the field.

So prevention is fruitless. Therefore climate change's agenda of lowering emissions is a meme and we should just work on messing with the oceans instead.

You probably want both, but the literature on sequestering the carbon or dropping temperature seems to get 0 coverage and I don't understand why.

>The devastating civil war that began in Syria in March 2011 is the result of complex interrelated factors. The focus of the conflict is regime change, but the triggers include a broad set of religious and sociopolitical factors, the erosion of the economic health of the country, a wave of political reform sweeping over the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Levant region, and challenges associated with climate variability and change and the availability and use of freshwater. As described here, water and climatic conditions have played a direct role in the deterioration of Syria’s economic conditions. There is a long history of conflicts over water in these regions because of the natural water scarcity, the early development of irrigated agriculture, and complex religious and ethnic diversity. In recent years, there has been an increase in incidences of water-related violence around the world at the subnational level attributable to the role that water plays in development disputes and economic activities. Because conflicts are rarely, if ever, attributable to single causes, conflict analysis and concomitant efforts at reducing the risks of conflict must consider a multitude of complex relationships and contributing factors. This paper assesses the complicated connections between water and conflict in Syria, looks more broadly at future climate-related risks for water systems, and offers some water management strategies for reducing those risks.

Rising sea levels, more flooding, more extreme weather phenomenons such as giant storms that ruin infrastructure, barely any permanent snow in certain parts of the world during winter (weather jumps too much between warm and cold, so the snow keeps melting away only to come back few days later) which leads to roads needing to be repaired far more often, rising temperatures means less places you can grow stuff like coffee and chocolate, etc.

Sryia isn't America, a very large part of its economy is based on agriculture.

>Between 2006 and 2009, around 1.3 million inhabitants of eastern Syria were affected by agricultural failures. An estimated 800 000 people lost their livelihoods and basic food supports (Solh 2010). During this period, yields of wheat and barley dropped 47% and 67%, respectively, and livestock populations plummeted (ACSAD 2011). A return of drought in 2011 worsened the situation. By late 2011, the UN estimated that between two million and three million people were affected, with a million driven into food insecurity.
>the protesters stated grievances are the only possible factors
