Ross is always number 1 then chandler then joey then monica. Rachel and phoebe can fluctuate at the bottom.

Monica and Ross are Jewish and both had pretty decent jobs (head chef at fancy restaurant and professor at prestigious college, respectively)

Chandler had a comfy office job and if I remember correctly was even promoted a few times

Joey was basically a failed actor but Chandler always supported him financially.

Phoebe was a masseuse and not a particular popular one it seemed, but she often alluded to prostitution so I wouldn't be surprised if Phoebe was giving at least happy endings. Plus I think she had some inheritance from her grandmother or someone.

Plus most of them roommated, which cuts rent in half, and the 90s economy was good.

Tech is extremely male dominated and lucrative, and the few women who do work in that environment tend to be awful looking. I own the Friends box set and bought each season of Seinfeld as it became available. I reckon I saw every episode of both before I bought the DVDs too. I am a connoisseur and easily see that Seinfeld is on another level to Friends, but Friends was often very funny despite becoming putting out genuinely unwatchable storylines by the time it died e.g. Phoebe's silly running style, Joey's attempt learning French. Also, Friends stole numerous Seinfeld stories.

Seinfeld was more consistent, even when LD left, and the best episodes were way better than Friends's best episodes.

But neither is as good as the Simpsons S3-10!
