I thought it was the best Star Wars flick.
The final battle was better than anything since at least Endor, which is probably because they ripped half of it off Return of the Jedi. But seriously, that KOTOR-style hammerhead ramming the star destroyer into the SSD to break through the shield generator was dope.
The droid may have been quippy, but he was funny.
I liked how the main characters all died, it was a satisfying ending. I expected some ass-pull rescue, but it didn't happen and by the time they died I was mildly sad for them to die on the beach. I hope they fucked in the elevator, at least.
I also felt that making the primary protagonist a female was okay, it wasn't any different than if it had been male and THAT is equality to me. Her sexuality was never brought up or had any impact on the story, it was unobtrusive.
The diversity in the cast was likewise not awful - they could have been anything, so they were a couple asians, a frenchman, a brit, and a robot.
All things considered it was better than TFA at least - which I also found to be alright.
Seeing the new Star Wars movies and the capeshit I missed since I started fucking with /tv/ leads me to the realization that all these bitter, angry little virgins age 10-45 are wrong. This is basically reddit but everyone thinks saying nigger and cuck is cool.

Regardless you like TFA or not (I don't but let's not transform it in the usual shitshow) I think this movie CELEBRATES the originals, it shows how dangerous and overwhelming, regardless of the quality of the troops, the Empire can be. This makes the accomplishment of han, Luke and Leia more important and unique. Because the "norm" is, at best, end like the protagonists of R1.
TFA shits all over the original characters. And I fear we still have to see the worst with Ep VIII.

I hate how in TFA Rey is shown strong humiliating the males around her. Jyn is good but she is one of the team. She know something, the guys know something else and all together they (barely) complete the mission.

The "gooks" were because of the trope that the mystic guy is an oriental. They needed an asian guy for china, they put a martial art guy conncted to the jedi (he would have become one probably if not of what happened) and the heavy gun guy was a consequence, a foil for his friend.
Baze (heavy weapon guy) was cool. I liked that he instead was not stereotypical, with an unsubtle DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA fight style.

I did not watch again TFA and I will not watch EP VIII nor any bullshit about han, but I like R1 and I re-watched it with more pleasure.
Is not a masterpiece and critiques concerning the initial pacing are spot-on, but has heart and grit I did not find in TFA.
It really expands universe and story without ruining the original and it is compelling enough.

I think would have been better for a number of reasons - one is that a final confrontation with the film villain does not go as hoped - but she still can pull it.
It would be in tone with the "quipping robot" (for the retard above) that is actually right about the bad feeling.

But seeing as most mains are killed by "cleaner" (if you allow me) explosions, I suspect is the executives asking to do not kill mains like that.
