They should have ended it with the last season. The novelty of reviving the show has worn off and it just seems like milking at this point. I've been stuck on this theory long before S10 even aired. I can't believe they actually went that route, I also assumed that's the way they were going in S1 but they changed it all because Gillian Anderson got pregnant.

Think about the factors:

>in "Miracle Man" it's established that God is real in this universe
>there's an episode literally titled "Fallen Angel"
>in several episodes leading up to "The Erlenmeyer Flask", there's tons of talk about mutated people

But then again I've looked far too deep into this and at tons of other media (even The Dark Knight Rises) and have come to some conclusion as to how The X-Files binds them all together and how it will end, even how the real world has influenced its production as a way to keep the truth hidden.

When you really think about it, Chris Carter is an absolute genius.

It's bounced back and forth between that and actual aliens a lot even in the original series. People keep saying this is a retcon but you have for example Mulder's sister being taken by the government and not aliens and that one kid with cancer being cured by the government using alien ships.

And this doesn't mean that there are no aliens, just that the aliens aren't behind most of the stuff that happens in the show. I feel like people who think this is a retcon never watched the original series or just forget because it flipped back and forth between aliens being involved and it just being people using alien tech a lot.

but the overall story was shit, though? the mythology was never properly settled, no matter how good the MTOW episodes are. there are individual episodes and seasons of the X Files that may be better than anything Fringe did, but on the level of a wider story, the X Files as a whole is inferior. they have different strengths. X Files is better for the core dynamic and comfy individual episodes, Fringe is better for characterisation and the overall story.

It's just that I personally value the ability for showrunners to craft a coherent overall story and mythology more, myself.

FOX must be desperate, season 10 was shit and pretty much killed any interest.

Also the attempt at introducing a pair of younger Scully/Mulder clones in order to reboot the series was pathetic, thankfully the ratings made that NOT happen.

I wonder what corpse of a series is up next, obviously nothing new FOX is putting on is working, they even rebooted Prison Break for this season.
