I know this is meant to be a bait thread but as someone with a lot of tattoos but personally I think books and movies are relatively acceptable sources of inspiration for tattoos it's music that's the really sketchy one.

I can't think of a movie I've once loved but now hate with a passion. Whereas my musical tastes change on a monthly basis. High School was a lot of dad rock. Then metal. Bluegrass. Electronic. And recently punk and hiphop. Imagine if I had gotten an Aerosmith tattoo or something back then I'd have hated myself today.

But I've also always made the argument that there's nothing wrong with a bad/regrettable tattoo simply because at one point in time it DID mean something to you so it serves as a sort of bookmark in your life. I'd only be okay with a shitty tattoo if I had more good ones for it to be surrounded with though. I wouldn't walk around with nothing but a Signs crop circle.

Eh I think this reaction to tattoos is overblown. I've had a shoulder tattoo for a few years now and it stays pretty well. As long as you make sure you're getting your pieces touched up there should never really be a problem. You can definitely tell when someone has gotten a bad tattoo and never gone back for touch ups. I see old men at the gym with the worst pieces of indescribable shit on their arms.

When I was in the army, I didn't even think about getting a tattoo until near the end of my deployment. I've seen and done some horrible things in my life so when I came back to the states I did a lot of volunteer work which prompted me to get two tattoos of the words "angel" and "devil" in chinese on my left and right wrists so that I can remind myself that I am capable of doing both good and bad things.

10 years from now I'll look at my wrists and still have profound thoughts of what went through my mind the day I decided to get these tattoos but the idiots who got them because they like movies will only see an outdated, obsolete franchise.
