We're taught in film school by our "professors", that while self-funding is the way to go for more unique projects which are unlikely to get funding (or get funding without having creative changes made), the better way to go about it is to get it funded. Why? Not only is it more efficient, it's a way to build social traction for the project. If you can pitch a movie to an investor who wants the movie made, you sure as hell can get people to watch it. It's a form of survival of the fittest. Secondly, crowdsourcing allows community brainstorming, doubles as marketing/exposure. Thirdly, and most importantly, we're film students; we've been trying to score a job for months with no avail. Easier said than done.
