Even if they properly introduced her in season 1 (I think she actually was listed in the credits for episode 1, but no actual introduction obviously), I can see the audience forgetting about her easily, and they'd probably have to dedicate a fair bit of extra screentime in reminding everyone she exists. I didn't realize it at the time, but in retrospect, the scene where Ramsay shows up shirtless and covered in blood when the ironborn come to rescue Theon was the beginning of the end.
